Endgame is tied to just repeatedly farming Tempered Arkveld.
Arkveld is the only tempered 8-star monster worth fighting in the end. Why? because he's the only one who has a significant amount of rarity 8 weapon mat drops, the armor is the only rarity 8 armor with highest amount of armor and most upgradability, and also great hunts with Tempered Arkvelds give the most xp. And unless you want to fashion hunt for layered armor, or farm for a rarity 8 non artian weapon, there's no real reason to grind any of the other monster. Besides searching for crowns. So atleast for me, I know the game just came out, but I feel the current "End Game" was poorly planned. I want to fight an 8 star congalala, or Nu Udra, or even an 8-star firechicken. But those dont exist. So there's not much of a point to continue engaging with the game until the next title update drops.

Was that ever a thing in previous games?

Technically the previous game. Sunbreak's "Anomaly monsters" basically buffed all monsters to where even beginner monsters were not a bunch of striking dummies. (Although they did become damage sponges) Story based reason meant they disabled capturing so you had to slay them. Gave unique materials for upgrading armors/weapons.

Right, but you still wouldn't find a 9 star Lagombi. Far as I remember, there are always the weak monsters and the "boss" ones, regardless of how they're scaled.
Your problem is the fact its not just arkveld and you just pick him cause he's the easiest 8*,

All Apexes count. GM counts. Go spice things up.

No matter how many times and with how many alts you post this the answer is still NO.

Rey Day
Gore Magala
Jin Dahaad
Nu Udra
Xu Wu
Dual hunts

All give you necessary materials and if you don't want to, you can make any monster drop into armor spheres or artian mats to upgrade them.

Some Artian weapons are not endgame either for stuff like hunting horn or RAW bow.

There is no true endgame in base MH games. If you don't want to burn out, try closing all achievements: use those binoculars to find crown monsters (you can boost this challenge by not skipping time and not joining others), learn fishing etc.
There's plenty room to entertain yourself, but no proper endgame till dlc (maybe even its title updates after that)

Everyone keeps saying Tempered Arkveld is the top tier monster in the game but two days ago Tempered Jin Dahad was taking every noobs lunch money in every group I joined for it. Four runs in a row my team mates carted us to failure. I think I've only seen one Arkveld failure this whole time.

Any of the apex predators are just as rewarding. People do Arkveld AND Gore Magala because they are the two hardest fights in general, and Arkveld is the flagship monster whereas Gore is the first time in a long while people have been able to fight the bastard.

This is very common in monster hunter. They add new fights with title updates, in april we get the bubble dragon. And we will get frequent events with unique rewards, such as themed sets and layered armors.

And that's different to end game of HR of 2 previous MH games how?
Only monster you farm for decos and parts changes.

How anyone can cart to Jin Dahaad is beyond me. Their attacks are so incredibly slow.

I carted to him exactly ONCE, when the ice I was standing behind for his nova didnt... register, I guess? And I blew up.

Capcom released the game early to meet share holder expectations. The finial boss, Zoh Shia who is the equivalent to worlds Xeno'jiiva didn't even get ANY gear. Arkveld isnt the only 8* monster Worth hunting he IS the only eight star. There is no "endgame" at all, the game banks on its replay-ability value (tbf wack is fun).

Arkveld is not the only one you can farm. But he is the easiest. And for some reason spawns way more often the othe others. Or maybe I am trippin.

Any locale apex monster gives you the same rewards as Arkveld - Uth Duna, Gore Magala, Rey Dau, Nu Udra and Jin Dahaad. Same top artian parts, if tempered, same armor and weapon decos.

If you are bored of all of these (how), you can make and upgrade your talismans - you will need these throughout the game until the very end. Especially the ones with elemental resistances, blast resist, stun resist, etc. I got PTSD fighting Velkhana in World, until I noticed my Ice resist was not up to par and a simple Ice resist talisman made things soooo much easier. Since you say you have nothing left to do for now, it is the perfect time to make some talismans for future fights.

Do something else than meta slave. You can craft stuff and find endemic life.
Artian weapons will be useless once g-rank drop anyway.
Dr. Raven 21. mar. kl. 3:09
It certainly is a poor end-game. But what's the point of going for the end-game stuff in the first place I have to wonder. Frankly I went reading through reviews of the game and found one that made me realize with them putting it in the best words I've heard so far.

The game lacks any friction at all. Why even grind artian weapons or decos? Monsters are just mostly stunned during fights where they very quickly die. But even if they were 5x longer to kill they can't fight back. Focus mode makes it so you never have to do proper positioning and can't miss monsters along with the effortless amounts of damage thrown out from popping wounds. Your seikret makes you immune to getting hit more than once in spite of monsters doing pitiful damage even with a glass cannon set.

Like there's no fixing this short of disabling focus mode in the game for the new tougher than tempered fights that are planned. It's fundamentally a game that doesn't want players to experience any hardship no matter how slight it is and focus mode is the largest cause of that.
The real endgame is farming consumables so that you have enough to last you in g rank without ever having to gather again. I'm already up to 600 mega demon drugs.
If you're wasting time investing in this skinner box meme called artian weapons you're doing it wrong.
