Game is crashing like crazy now!
What happened? Was there a weird update? I lost rewards cause I've crashed twice at the reward screen and several times at start up.

Beware of savegame corruption

Dang it. How do I fix that? I really don't want to lose my progress.

they patched it about a week ago, I've been riddled in random bsod since. did a system check/repair and it seemed to have helped a little but after an hour of playing got bsod again and pc automatically rebooted itself again

There is no fix yet. I am doing a daily backup of my stuff to have peace of mind.

Regarding your crashes, try this tip #16 here and try again - reset the game if you used mods, like e.g. REFramework

If the issue persists, share a DxDiag report

Have you checked the "System" tab in your Windows Event Viewer to see what error is displayed?

Could it be Event ID 2004 resource-exhaustion-detector?

This often causes the game to crash in MHWilds.

One solution would be to buy more RAM, because otherwise the virtual memory is overused.

My girlfriend now has over 40 GB of RAM and a new CPU installed. Older CPUs may have an issue with MHWilds.

Another thing that might help is overclocking the RAM to 3200 MHz in the BIOS. (Please don't use XMP; try overclocking your RAM manually and then see if the game runs. First try it at 3000 MHz and then maybe again at 3200 MHz. It might help.)
If you are using an older build of REframework, try one of the nightly builds. Or, remove the build you currently have and see what happens. It is difficult to know why games crash unless they tell you why they crash, so a certain amount of digging is usually required.

Deleting the shader.cache/shader.cache2 files and letting the game recompile the shaders can solve SOME crashing issues. It might not fix your issue, but it is worth a try.

Murloc's advice to check the event viewer is spot on, tho. It may point you in the right direction. Just for fun, start a new save slot and see if it continues to crash. This isn't required, but you can backup your current save and try disabling steam cloud before you start a new save.

/steam/userdata/8089756/2246340/remote/win64_save/

Copy the win64_save folder and move it somewhere safe. Just be aware that you can potentially lose your save. If you don't feel comfortable trying any of this, then that's ok. Starting a new save slot should do essentially the same thing.

Just make sure to COPY the win64_save folder back where you found it and overwrite the test save to use your old save again. Also, re enable steam cloud AFTER you copy your old save back where you found it.

I would recommend just periodically backing up your save to a safe location. I keep mine sorted by date so I can trouble shoot if I need to.

This should definitely be a consideration and simple test. A bad or corrupt save file will cause frequent crashes.
