I am having the same issue and am considering getting a refund but Steam keeps rejecting my request because it doesn’t meet the 2 week 2 hour requirements.

I recommend getting a refund if you would like to and have < 2 hours of play time

Refund is the right idea once you see a game doesn't run properly. You can always buy it cheaper later.

Also, if you see people complain about performance in future games -- now you know NOT to purchase a game because it can be your experience next.

Especially look for ones where people complain the game cannot start. Dead giveaway the game isn't coded properly.

Yes, I learned hard from this game.
In my 10+ years of playing computer games, I’ve never experienced a crash caused by the game itself (well, it’s not confirmed yet but seemingly).

For me as soon as I launch a black window appears and crash handler pops up. I just move the crash handler to my second monitor and after about 10 sec the game starts up and runs fine. Just can't close the crash handler otherwise the game closes

That is ridiculous.

The game has not received any change or update since some days, so the problem must be on your end thanks to OS or driver update. I recommend to verify the game files and to recompile the shaders.

On my end its all solid and well, but i have a pure AMD system and no driver change also. Heard that nvidia did roll out driver updates recently. May be connected to your issue.
