The completely unintuitive and bloated controls attack me harder than the monsters do. I sure love getting stuck in Focus mode or in 15 sub menus of the item bar mid fight. Or having my character "charge up" an attack by just standing there and no way of knowing if he's charging up or just standing there because the idle stance looks exactly the same as the charging stance. Who knows if the game accepted my inputs or not. Shouldn't take 15 menus and changing universal names of "Party/Group" to stupid names to set up a multiplayer party.
The missions are all just "get on your mount and follow npc X on a mount until you run into monster" with 10 minutes of meh cutscenes before, middle of, and after. Rinse repeat. No points there. Which honestly is fine since I would *like* to just grind and fight monsters at my own pace... but every damned quest is like doing an escort in an MMO. Just awful.
Everything is extremely bloated and convoluted then terrible performance to ice the cake. Any weapon I use, my character moves and reacts like they are sinking in quicksand. My mount runs all over the place forever even if I have all the settings for that disabled. Frustrating isn't a strong enough word for how bad this game controls.
My data doesn't align with yours, and it's cute that you selectively pick metrics that confirms your biases. :P
I mean, I might subjectively agree with you, but there's no denying people are loving wilds ;p
Yea. It sold like hot cakes. Capcom execs are laughing their way off to bank now.
-Peak Average Concurrent Players: 334,684
-Concurrent Players after a month: 231,448
-All Time Peak Concurrent Players: 334,684
Monster Hunter Wilds first month on steam:
-Peak Average Concurrent Players: 407,189
-Concurrent Players after a month (or 3 weeks, in this case): 452,179
-All Time Peak Concurrent Players: 1,384,608
Turns out, TECHNICALLY, yes. Monster Hunter Wilds fell off 3 times harder than World. Also, turns out that Wild is growing its daily concurrent players whereas World did not, and Its also working with 4.5x as many initial players, and 25% more daily players overall within the first month. JUST ON STEAM (I wish I could get accurate player metrics for consoles. If there's a place for it, I don't know it). Never you mind that Monster Hunter Wilds is Capcoms fastest selling game of all time.
Some more fun data comparisons within the first month:
-Monster Hunter Wilds has 4 times the twitch viewership in its first month compared to the ENTIRETY of Worlds run time (Yes, including Iceborne).
-Monster Hunter Wilds is 5000% more popular at release [steam] than Worlds was (#6 steam best seller as opposed to #320)
-In comparison to other niche titles blowing up the internet Worlds is more popular than Elden Ring, Sold better than Palworld, and beat out Helldivers 2 in sales AND popularity.
And the PC market now is way bigger and popular than the Console market.
Mostly due to china having more people who can afford to be gamers now.
Even in Japan more Fans bought a gaming PC or a new GPU for Wilds than a PS5.
I talked to friends in japan and there ware lines to buy a new GPU just because of wilds.
Wilds has short easy hunts and guarantied drop rates on the rarest materials.
Fact is you can basically experience almost everything the game has to offer in less than 50 hours.
I have to find excuses just to keep playing after i soloed a Tempered Gore magala at hour 50.
The reason why people are buying pc's over consoles is that with modern consoles being 1000 bucks (for several reasons), its actually more economical to get a pc. For the same price I can get a system I can do ANYTHING with, not just what the manufacturer lets me do.
People weren't buying Wilds more than World on release because they thought it was easier; The vast majority of the 8 million people who bought the game the first 3 days were doing it on hype alone, they had no idea the game was more streamlined. At least some of them were expecting improvements to what World did.
"Basically" "almost" lots of hand wavey language here bud. I think you are blowing this way out of proportion because you are thinking inside your own bubble.
Go figure. It was pretty transparent that they were just messing with people.
