I don't know about you but I can NOT read this game's map.
I'm not sure why but even with both maps fixed to north I still get turned around real easy.
I'm sure the more I play the more familiar I'll get with the areas just like I did in Rise. But it always takes me a hot minute or two to get used to how to read the map.

Anyone else get turned around easy in this game?

Haha. Gives a whole new meaning to the saying "that sh** is for the birds".

The dev's got you covered, there is no need to even look at the map.
lock the map so it doesnt rotate... helps
I've more or less given up on the map tbh 'cause trying to navigate with it is such a bother. It automatically swaps map layers in a very temperamental fashion and just feels awkward to use.

Map marker and scoutflies + bird will have to do. My hunter needs their GPS and self driving car after all the blunt force traumas.
lock it to the north. I never had issues with a map, but the rotations and angles messed me up. locking it solved the issue.

The issue you may be having is the fact where your camera is facing, may not be where your character is facing. So on the map, your character may be looking one way, but your camera is completely opposite, or skewed to the left/right, so when you start moving in the direction or your camera, you get confused.

I'd suggest always resetting the camera behind you, before moving, since you already have the minimap and main map set to 'Fixed' in the options. When in doubt though, you can always just set a waypoint on your map, mount up on your Uber, and let it take you there instead.

And what about when you're out on the field just doing whatever.
The problem is never when I'm on an actual hunt, it's when I'm milling about doing field work.

I've done that and it helps, now I just need to get used to looking at the map areas with the map locked to north.
The Seikret runs automatically to where you pin stuff on the map. There's a filter at the bottom left of the map that you can select everything on there off a list, you can select monsters on the right, you never actually have to directly interact with the map.

How are you still getting lost?

Honestly, the only issue with the map for me, is it auto switching layers, which is annoying as all hell, especially when I'm just trying to look for something specific on a certain layer, and as soon as I hover over something that's on a different layer, it changed >.>.

Other than that, the map really isn't a problem for me anymore, granted I've over 100+ hours now.

Don't know how to set waypoints yet. Not sure how to do it playing with controller.

It happens when you select monsters, it's annoying. I wonder if there's anything to turn off for it in the options.

The map auto-changing floors as you move the cursor around is what makes it unusable

Plenty of new, very bad design choices in this game. Different and new isn't always better..

I'm on an XBOX controller myself, but should be the same for a PS controller as well.

1) Open up the map, hover over an object (monster, gathering node, etc)
2) The cursor will change from the white lines pointing at a dot, to a yellow circle
3) Press down on the Right Analog Stick to set the waypoint, it should show a blue marker pointing at it
4) Mount up and enjoy the ride

Note: You can't just randomly set a waypoint on open ground, you have to actually pick a target. If you no longer want a waypoint instead, you will have to go back to your original target and hit the button again to remove it, or just a different target and it'll just swap it over of course. Typically if I no longer want that waypoint, I'll target whatever's closest to me and hit the button twice to completely remove the waypoint.
