Where the hell are my Saved Hunter Designs?
I spent like an hour in the character creator last night, trying to do the 'make your partner in the character creator' challenge. I made and SAVED 3 designs. Then I shut off the game since I had to go to bed, I didn't start playing yet.

Load up today to finish my designs and they are all gone. WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥.

If you're just trying to make edited saves for the Hunter and the palico looks make a new character and once you're done with your creations save them start the game skip the cutscenes and while you're riding instantly hit start save and go back to the main menu but just make sure you save and then return to the main menu because that's where the save happens.
Then you can delete your character it will still keep your designs.

Eh... I am not sure that works. The files are saved with the hunter ID. So...

As long as he does what I mentioned it will work I've done this over 200 times

And when is that ID assigned? After you start the game officially?

Why even have a 'SAVE' function if it doesn't do anything until you start the game?
