Artian are not mandatory at all. Just having tons of fun not using them.
Artian weapons are far from optimal in all cases. ^^''
The lbg's can only get normal shot rapid fire, they can't get pierce, another thing that is meh about them. Lots of things like this I could say. :P
The big gimmick artians have is 3 lvl 3 slots, but most monster weapons have decent skills baked in. ^^''
Artian weapons are not required. In fact, theres several monster weapons that are better. Not only that, they dont change the way the game plays/feels in anyway. Unless you like build-crafting. The games plays the same with or without artian weapons.
2. They only have so many monsters in for weapon designs
3x3 slot deco is crazy. If you get 1 sharpness roll it's usually fine. If you want you can virtually double sharpness with 1 gem.
There are a handful of weapon types that are better, I think paralysis lance? gun lance is generally considered better than its artian counterpart, and hunting horns generally don't want their songs, but even without god rolls nearly every tier 8 artian with average rolls is a competitor with the end game weapons based on how many attack rolls it gets.
You gotta look at the weapons with the weapon damage coefficient turned off for a better idea as to how good a weapon actually is at base.
