The only benefit the Artian has over the Guardian Arkveld weapon is 3 3* Deco slots, but G Arkveld has 2 3* slots already, so you can fit Artillery 3 (best shelling DPS boost) and one of the Magazine hybrid jewels.
G Arkveld weapon also has "Slightly Strong" shells which boost the shelling damage, and one of the highest raw damage totals of all Gunlances, all of which contribute to the shelling damage.
With my armor skills all active, my shells hit monsters for ~100 damage a shot, usually running closer to 85-90 though since I don't get to proc the Jin Dahaad set boost very often. That's a good bit more than I would be doing with an equivalent Artian weapon, and your booms make up a significant portion of your DPS as a Gunlancer.
No need to waste your time trying to grind the perfect Artian with god rolls for Gunlance. We got a better tool anyway.
Slap on a rocksteady mantel at the start of a fight to get a full burst x2 combo, ending each in a Wyvern. Lovely big numbers <3
Kinda. The point of the rocksteady in this case is to ensure you get the whole 2x combo off for Burst 5. Whenever you land the combo, burst will activate giving you a massive stat boost. You then Wyvern at the end of the combo (After the stake in the Full Burst combo) and then do the whole thing again.
If the monster knocks you over at any point in that, you're going to take a _substantial_ DPS loss as you have to restart the combo to make sure Burst stays on (So that's a reposition, reload and hoping the monster stays near you). Rocksteady stops you getting knocked down. You still take the full damage though so be cautious around monsters like Gore. Once you've gotten through the combo and the mantel is done, switch to corrupted for aggressive play style, or switch to healing if you're going for a full-break-farm.
The buffs to Wyvern's Fire and Wyvernstake Blast are very good considering how consistently you can use both of them in Wilds. If this was World, it would be less of a factor, but since those are both now heavily integrated into your most powerful combos, it's significant.
I don't think they scale with sharpness anymore either.
Armour skills are a little bit more subjective depending on what you want to do or accomplish, but I have a mixed set.
Here is my fill build actually:
Head - Ebony Helm B - Counter [2]
Chest - Blango Mail B - Ambush [2]
Arms - Dahaad Shardbracers B - Ambush [2]
Belt - Ebony Coil B - Physique [1] + Counter [2]
Legs - Dahaad Shadgreaves B - Counter [2]
Talisman - Chain Charm II [For burst. No decorations obviously]
Weapon - G Lawful Bors - Focus [1], Artillery [3]. Magazine\Ironwall [3]
This will give you the following skills on the weapon:
Arty 3 (Extra pew pew damage)
Guard 3 (You have a shield, don'tcha!?)
Load Shell 2 (Gives you an extra shot)
Focus 1
And this on Armour:
Agitator 5 (When monster enrages, so do you)
Burst 5 (Incredibly silly stat boost)
Counterstrike 3
Ambush 2
Adaptability 1 (Love this skill!)
Constitution 1
Set skills will be:
Binding Counter 1
And Burst Boost 1 (Are you seeing what I'm going for yet?)
The big play - get an ambush, get rocksteady on, do the full burst combo twice, ending each part with a Wyvern.
I don't _THINK_ this is meta, but damn is it fun :D
