arkveld also does a lot of heavy lifting for the concept imo, arkveld's story/lore is really tragic and i think they do a wonderful job communicating that through it's design and it's behavior both during a hunt and when it's just idly roaming. the idea of a bio-engineered slave rising above it's intended purpose and restrictions to survive where it was meant to perish is really compelling, but the fact that arkveld can't exist without posing a threat to the world it's now stumbling through blindly makes it kind of sad too.
edit: not really a fan of zoh shia but that's largely bc i think all of the fatalis fanservice is lame and largely unearned for how boring of a monster it is.
i like em, changes up old monsters to do a few new things.
Especially since every MH game is usually about ED's.
as for not eating: that was more literal, which we see basically in the very next fight after being told that, the creature won't go to s corpse on the ground to actually eat, they go to wylk and quite literally absorb it, and mechanically never actually get hungry
