Is Fishing bugged?
I swear I have only been able to catch one in a 30 mins, using bates, all tips.
I ran across a few posts saying its bugged, and it sure feels that way,
Mainly I can't do the stupid goldenfish one no matter how i move the bate

I had no trouble fishing, but I did notice that sometimes they just don't bite and you have to move on/retry. There is an all purpose bait and some for specific fish, but the golden fish should be relatively easy to catch since they're pretty common and easy to spot. Had to do a lot of resting to finish the sidequests, not a fan of whoppers.

thanks for the feedback tips! Ill try coming back to it, just feels like it takes way too much work to fish so far , after the quest ill most likely never do again (unless theres another quest)
There is a bunch of quests for more fish after the golden one, but there's no reason to do it other than to complete achievements, have fun, or to farm whetstone scales. At least I think there isn't.
ah well if its just achievements then yeah ill ignore it, I didnt know if the quest led to something cool or not, but that's a hard pass for me if its just busy work

Noticed this too, just like real fish. Fishing is all about bonding with a friend/family member, getting a buzz, and just enjoying yourself. Now assuming you've done all your quests, it's just easier to use a net for the small ones. If you're after the whoppers, it's going to take a while.
I did all the fishing stuff pretty easy and as long as you see the fish in the water and have the right lure they bite almost instantly, or should, never personally had an issue.

They won't bite the wrong lure at all.

Can get jeweled mullet roe for cooking and some other items for crafting.
But the ROI is very low. So yeah, mostly time sink or pass time depending on your mentality

wiggle the line a little, or reel a little. some fish want to dance and some fish want to chase.

Wrong bait and some fishes take time to bite. Keep jiggle the line to lure in the fish with correct type of bait.

Thanks for the tips!
I had issues at first too as I didn't really understand how the new fishing worked.

Eventually learnt fishes seemingly are more attracted to the bait when you reel it in slowly; others simply will bite immediately as line is cast as is the case for goldenfish and sushifish with the respective special lures they are most attracted to.

Sometimes it's also useful to move the lure sideways to be in front of the fish but in most cases they'll swim to you instead.

The game is not always extremely clear with its tutorials and instructions, went several hours not understanding what it wanted me to do to reel in the lure XD

Hope this helps ^^

I found that the controls are not explained well at least on controller when it says L stick down for reel, it's not holding or pushing the stick, it's constantly going up and down with it to reel, the faster you do it the smoother the movement is in the water and I noticed that some fish will react better to that than just a floating bait/lure.
i'm having a terrible time trying to catch 30 whoppers bc it seems like none of the big fish bite :(
Fishing is absolutely bugged if you're using a controller on PC. I have spent hours trying to get more of those stupid ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ tunas for the Greatsword and no matter what when I push the buttons and directions on the joystick it tells me to push literally nothing happens. The animation for correctly following/tiring the fish when it leaps doesn't play, and eventually it just breaks the line and ♥♥♥♥♥ off. This fishing system is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, and their explanation of it is even worse. The fact that there's zero indication you're making any progress other than a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ little animation of your hunter slamming the rod down is incredibly terrible game design.
