Hammer desperately in need of BUFF.
The damage of the second charge uppercut and the third charge Earth Strike is just way too low. This can lead to a completely unfeasible "roam and hit"roaming playstyle.
The hammer's offset attack requires the third hit of the attack to trigger. With such a high trigger difficulty, the benefit of triggering is extremely low, it needs to do at least triple the damage or have some powerful follow up moveset to justify the difficulty.

I kinda like hit and run hammer, but im coming from gunlance that could barely move in comparison.

How is charging and poking with charged uppercut till you stun/para then going ham on them completely unfeasible?

Cause thats what i do and monsters die pretty quick.

The damage output of this playstyle is just too low right now compare to all other 13 weapon in the game. Especially compare with those S tier weapon like SnS, Gunlance.....
Even if you don't use them at all and went for the highest dps combo, the maximum expected damage is still way too low.
The fastest tempered arkveld freestyle kill with hammer is somehow slower then those S tier weapon with TA rules kill.

Damn it's almost like this game isn't a competitive game with weapons balanced to compete with each other for speedrun kills. It's almost like the Hammer is balanced around the utility it brings for KO's and blunt damage to the team.

I literally came from gunlance, and im not noticing super low damage.
You cant be as aggressive sure but the monster is locked down a heck of a lot more often with hammer as opposed to other weapons.
Thats gotta count for something.

would be interesting to know how far behind hammer is.
Like is it killing in half the time? 20% slower? 30%?
is it taking like 2-3x as long to kill with hammer compared to S tier?

Hammer does more than damage. This seems to be the trade off for doing 'less' damage.

I would argue those additional things would be appreciated if monsters would live long enough to capitalize on it

Damn it's almost like other weapon don't have their distinguishing feature like shields for survivability/hammer for KO. It's almost like this game isn't only a team hunting game but also can be played solo. It's almost like game that wasn't competitive doesn't need balance like the developers did to SnS & Lance after beta.

Weapons have strengths and weaknesses. Like on GS I feel super safe, can tackle through anything with very lenient timing, I can guard, a lot of the big hits flinch the monsters.
Then on Switch Axe I gotta dodge/move very precisely but against weaker monsters they just die instantly from the crazy damage.

At the end of the day the damage doesn't matter, it's just what you find fun.
If you're competitive speedruns are compared to runs with the same weapon, so it doesn't matter if they aren't balanced

Every weapon does more than just damage, hammer cant even cut the tails some would say.
But that doesn't justify hammer should do less damage than other weapon.

It's about sweet, sweet stuns.

Like how lance is about defenses.

Hammer has claw slide and mighty charge. I'm dancing around the monster faster and hitting it harder than I ever could in World. You're just bad.

It's not about the characteristic of a weapon, it's about making all playstyle viable and balanced and rewardable.

honestly does feel like hammer could do with a damage buff of like 10%. Its definitely on the lower end, it should be near lance at least.

If you're not just playing whatever weapon you think is coolest, please leave this game and never come back. We don't want you. If you don't want to bonk then just don't bonk. Bonk life isn't for you.

This is literally one of the last game franchises where fun is more important than chasing a meta. If you could not contribute to ruining that it would be great thanks.
