Game is ONLY using CPU? (0% GPU?) [SOLVED]
Can anyone explain to me why Monster Hunter Wilds isn't using my RTX 4070??????

EVERYTHING is going to the processor, it doesn't make any sense!

Is anyone else having this problem????

I've put some images on imgur to prove this “magic” that capcom has done.

does anyone have a solution?

It looks like dragons dogma 2 at launch... :steamfacepalm:

update:

It's a desktop
CPU: i9-11900K
GPU: RTX 4070

Means that in this game you are CPU limited, so that your GPU can't stretch its legs. (also the game is poorly optimized).
Generally there are games which are CPU intensive and there are games which are GPU intensive and there are ones which are both.

And even within a game there can be areas which tax your CPU more than your GPU. Like heavy physics simulation and NPC AI calculations are more CPU intensive while lots of meshes with detailed textures as well as fancy lighting effects, shadows and the likes are more GPU intensive.

So, in order to fix this you just might have to upgrade your CPU.

the problem checking the usage this way is that ur not focused in the game or its minimized therefore the results arent really useful at all.

i suggest taking a screenshot with ur nvidia overlay on and make sure ur using the dedicated gpu if ur on a laptop
BLAME CAPCOM FOR UR INCOMPETENCE MEANWHILE YOU ARE RUNNING Intel(R) UHD Graphics AS YOUR GPU (built-in graphics processor on your CPU) ...try uninstalling it buddy

What's your CPU, btw?

I've thought about removing the game's shader cache and opening it up again to see if that solves it... I've got a flea behind my ear thinking that it's something to do with the video card update... maybe even a downgrade in its recent update will solve it... I don't know....

None of you are experiencing this, I imagine... right?

lol... uninstalling the processor's video drivers? hm... I can simply disable the processor's video in the manager... I'll test it out and get back to you!

maybe I'm too stupid to think that disabling the CPU video in the device manager would force the game to use the video card... = didn't work.

do u see the nvidia pop up on the top right when u open the game? it should say something like press hotkey to show nvidia overlay, if it does it is should be using ur nvidia gpu

if ur usage is still low somehow check ur other games run fine and usage is proper.
Open nvidia control panel, go to manage 3D settings, then to program settings, look for MH Wilds and set it to use the Nvidia GPU, also set power mode in there to naximum performance. Apply. After that, go windows settings, games, game mode, graphic elements, click on add app (left option), set it to GPU Preference: Nvidia GPU, save, try loading the game and see if it works!

open config.ini in the games install folder and change the line ParallelBuildProcessorCount=8 to =16 instead and see if your situation improves.

OK listen up, this is going to sound stupid but check something for me.
Is your VIDEO CABLE going from your PC to your Display plugged into the VIDEO CARD or your MOTHERBOARD?

Right! I'll try that and get back to you, I'm reinstalling the game to see if anything changes too... I'll get back to you in a bit!

Yes, it sounded a bit dumb, it's definitely connected to the video card. lol :steamhappy:

It is a mistake people have made before, and will continue to make for as long as computers exist and I had to ask.

There's nothing like seeing someone discover their 500~1500 Dollar GPU was doing literally nothing because they plugged a wire into the wrong socket.

Hmm, is that happening all throughout the game? Or just in certain parts of the game? I'm trying to determine if this is normal behaviour or not because the game is actually both very CPU and GPU heavy. In the base camp and villages for example it taxes the CPU a lot.

I have a 5800x3D and an RX 9070 XT but I never bothered to check CPU utilization. I'll just do that and get back to you.
