I think the wounds are the main culprit, I don't think that destroying the wounds should do that much damage and stun the monster as well. The wounds should have been just purely material collection related thing and when destroying them, it should ONLY stagger the monster for a second so you have time to recover from the focus attack and fight again.
To be fair more people might be using artian armor but you just dont know it because they have it layered because honestly artian armor looks like complete butt (except the helmet which looks OK)
You've improved, and that's why you think Wilds is easier; get over it.
