Offset Strikes not working?
I main Switch Axe and I'm not sure if the timing needs to be precise or if it's not working properly and I'm not getting nearly as many topples as I should be. I connect with the hit, I get the sound effect and the sparks effect on the strike, and the monsters take damage but the monsters just continue like nothing happened and I take the attack. This happens multiple times per fight with pretty much every monster I've fought so far. I do still get topples, but only about 1/4 of what i should if the sound and visual indicators are anything to go by.

there is a cooldown on offset attack topples before they can work in full again
My guess, it has hidden bar similar to status element (paralysis, stun, etc..). Each successfully landed off-set, the more difficult to off-set monster on your next off-set.

Could be wrong tho.

I believe its 100% true. It takes a while for me to offset a monster. I play paralysis build. At times I just got into savage axe mode (so shield if fully charged and have extra vials for savage axe dmg) and monster is paralysed. Because of savage axe next paralyse comes out fairly soon too if I dont get topple than paralyse right after :D.

However as fight goes on I paralyse maybe 1 or 2 times more but they have large time gaps by than. Topple even takes long unless I aim for different limbs. Though I would argue even other limbs gain some Defense against it even if untouched. I guess by the time we hit master level, opening wounds will probably be like 1-3 max per area through entire fight.

You mentioned Switch Axe, so maybe you're talking about sword mode's Counter Rising Slash. This is a counter, and won't result in topples like an offset.
