Monster Hunter Wilds

Monster Hunter Wilds

(Repost because no one saw it the first time I posted it ); ) Never played a Monster Hunter game. Is this game a good entry point to the Monster Hunter series and should is it worth it in its current state?
I have been seeing a lot about Monster Hunter recently (Not just Monster Hunter Wilds) and I am really interested in playing one of the games. Pretty much, I want to know if this game is worth getting and if it is a good entry point to the Monster Hunter Series. The game looks fun, but all the optimization complaints and the mixed reviews are kind of putting me off in addition to this being a new game in the series, so I'm unsure if it would be a good starting point.

If you're skittish about the optimisation (reasonably so), but you want an experience that's similar to this, I'd recommend trying Monster Hunter World first and seeing how that is. It's still new-player friendly and runs significantly better. I wouldn't worry too much about the online component as these games are stellar solo anyways. Admittedly, I do think Wilds is an overall better game outside of optimisation, but World is definitely more complete and approachable. The sentiment of Wilds essentially being World 2 is pretty apt.

MH: Rise was released after World but its systems and aesthetics are quite different, and it's a lot faster pace at the sacrifice of immersion.

It'll take a lot of tinkering and modding with optimizers to make it run ok-ish on an average pc (if you look you'll see most people who claim the game runs flawlessly are people with 4~5k top of the line pcs AND using dlss+frame gen).
I'd suggest looking up what you should expect with your setup. Other than the performance the game is a good starting point for newcomers and if you don't want to gamble with the whole performance thing then World/Iceborne exists, plenty of fun to be had in it, still plenty of people playing it too and not really much "harder" than this one until you start getting into the post-base game stuff.
If you wanna get into monster hunter, I'd say get World with Iceborne and play through that. Compared to Wilds, It's actually been optimized well enough. Never had it crash on me and its jam packed with content compared to Wilds. After that you could move onto Wilds and whatever dlc it ends up getting for G/Master Rank. If you want a more arcade-y feeling Monster hunter, give Rise with Sunbreak a try, its a different feeling game compared to Worlds/Wilds, but its got a charm to it and a lot cool new and returning monster.

Happy Hunting

It is not a good entry to the series.

It is a great entry to the series.

The most accessible so far, with a great story and best presentation the series had ever offered.

I do not see any optimisation issues. I am running the game on a cheap laptop with mid-end PCs easily surpassing my hardware's specifications. Stable FPS, smooth image and gameplay, no input lag and so on.

If you check the reviews it is easy to see that most have no idea how to review a game, if they abuse such to comment on their bad hardware by denying responsibility and blaming the game instead.

If you would be okay of being unfairly treated, like you created some art but someone else rate it down just because they do not understand it, then you can take it as face value. Otherwise it is wise to look closer and double check the reviews.

Download the benchmark, if that one runs really fine you are good with Wilds.
Very important is to have a stable framerate, not all settings are worth it.
Custom settings allways instead of presets, even for the benchmark.
I got it... I played for like 12 hours straight today, yes the game ran well enough for me (THANK GOD) I just finished downloading some mods and stuff to improve my performance a little and get rid of that incredibly blurry look the game has. Definitely a worth it purchase for me

Excelsior! :mhwilds_OK:
No reason not to start with monster hunter world over this one, better price, more content, better optimisation.
And maybe you find here some more optimisation tips, if you are not already using it :mhwhappy:

Well if you buy on steam you can refund in 2 hours if you do run into perfomance issues.
Many people run it just fine or with minimal issues (personally it crashes every 10hr or so for me, but otherwise runs fine).
Other people cant run it at all.

In terms of gameplay it is much MUCH better for a new player than world.
combat in general is improved, you have more options for movement and defence than world.
The new focus system makes attacking feel much better for a new player, since you wont see your attacks constantly whiff if you like the big beefy weapons like lances/hammers/greatwords.

The difficulty is also abit lower than the other titles, which can help ease you in.
Going from "normal" bossfights were like 5min is considered a long time so 30min hunts in world can be jarring.
Hunts in wilds are more like 15min and can drop to as low as 5min if you really know what you are doing.

Navigation can also be simplified by just letting your mount track/follow the monster, in world you gotta do that manually and that can be annoying if you just wanna fight the monster not track it down.

So yeah overall this is the best entry point.
