I dont know if that fixed yet, but thats one reason people dont bother set up camps.
If you show up for the last 30 seconds of a hunt and contribute nothing then you should get nothing.
I only join hunts that are less than 5 minutes in as it is. If someone can take the monster down in under 5 minutes and they can't be bothered to spread out their pop-up camps then they might as well have not fired the SOS. They clearly didn't want anyone joining the fight.
I think the issue is that the game doesn't quite encourage you to explore. You always know where to find everything pretty much. No quests where you have to search for something with no clues etc like older games.
And about the only thing that is NOT cluttering the map right from the moment you unlock each zone... are the potential camp spots. You can only spot them on the minimap in the corner once you get close enough.
But I figure it is worth unlocking them. Most monsters tend to have a few select spawn locations and it is worth having camps near those locations because the maps are pretty large.
I wouldn't even say it is important for them to be in "safe" spots. The Zone 13 camp at the Desert Oasis is one of the most useful in the region, but it gets smashed by monsters basically ALL the time. Maybe the one just to the west of it in the dunes would suffice for that though. I've never seen any monster break the west one and they're pretty close together.
Clearly I need to figure out how to make a mod to make my chocobo run faster, because as it stands my current fastest is sometimes not fast enough.
