Monster Hunter Wilds
Why do people get mad when DPS is posted?
Are you upset that your incompetence is being pointed out?

EDIT:
It seems to me that the biggest gripe with posting DPS is the fact that most players get very upset if they're not #1

Not everyone has a DPS build. It's perfectly acceptable to have low DPS, but getting upset over that is petty and immature.

Edit2: Insulting someone for having low DPS is completely unacceptable. That is not what this post is about. I was talking about POSTING damage numbers, not being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about them. Major difference.

IMO dps numbers goes against the spirit of the hunt.

these are not valid excuses for getting angry.
If someone has 3x your DPS, so what? why do you care so much?

That's what I'm asking you.

When you spammed your DPS meter in the last Hunt we were together in you were raging at our Hunting horn main for doing the least DPS of the group even though they saved you from triple carting and when I pointed out I did triple your DPS you called me a slur and then rage quit.

Now I find out you're here posting a thread about it trying to lie and say we were the upset ones when nobody said a word in chat until you started spamming the numbers that showed you floor-tanking the entire hunt.

100 hours and you almost triple cart against untempered maggy.

Yikes dude.
Is this really what this topic was all about o_O? Wow.
I'm new to MH, 19hrs in and I still don't know what DPS means =))
Because they dont want to see how terrible they are compared to everyone else. I didnt even know world had a dps meter till someone posted it in chat, didnt bother me one bit because I dont suck

It's an MMO term that doesn't matter in Monster Hunter.

It matters alot in monster hunter actually, If you join a group and your dps sucks all you are doing is making the hunt harder for everyone else that has to carry your dead weight
There's never a situation where posting these numbers unasked isn't coming from a toxic stand point.

The thing is that these kind of people only posting it when they're #1 or close to it, but suddenly become silent, when they're the ones failing to reach their own standards.
if my paralyze hammer stuns the monster 3 times, and paralyzes him twice, is all the damage the hunters dish out while the monster is just lying there get added to my dps meter?

really tho my biggest gripe w/ the dps meter is that it encourages behaviors that are counter productive to play. such as waking up a monster prematurely because they don't want that extra 1.5k damage added to the gs user, or intentionally toppling a monster as an insect glaive user so the hammer user doesn't get his 2k damage/stun/exhaust to the monsters head. it also promotes cookie cutter builds which emphasize dps over other important utilities that are benefial to the entire party. finally players will engage w/ a monster that carts them, rather than taking time to heal or hope they'll be healed by a teammate

in short it brings nothing to the game while encouraging deleterious behaviors

3 Reasons:

1) Because 99/100 times you're showing me doing more than triple your damage after you carted twice and I don't need you to be trying to cover up that fact by crying at our Hunting Horn main for being at the bottom of the DPS meter because they pulled triple duty keeping you from carting the third time.

2) Because going back over 20 years now to the earliest days of WoW when DPS meter addons first started to get mainstream popularity in games, it was always considered rude to spam chat with numbers nobody actually cares about because if they did care about them, they'd have the addon themselves.

3) Because you don't actually know how to read DPS meters, that's why you're posting the results in to chat. All DPS tracks is raw per-person output. It doesn't consider down time from when you carted the second time by pulling aggro and then aiming the attack at our charge blade user who was about to hit a wound but now has to recover from stun because you made them get hit, and it doesn't count for support playstyles who focus on keeping everybody else buffed and healed for their contribution instead of raw damage output.

Use the meter to gauge your own performance and get number tracking for builds. Spamming chat with numbers un-prompted makes you look like a douchebag, especially since they never mean what you think they mean and they actually show you being useless to the team.

And even if they did cart, it would be even more embarrassing if they did more dps then you even after dying a couple times, it means you had 0 contribution to the hunt and would have been better of going afk at camp. Also, the total damage players did is more important then the dps stat, you are clueless.
I don't know why they're so insecure.

If they are afraid of dps numbers, they could solo the monster on their own.
Oh wait, maybe they needed the team to carry them...
I don't care who did most DPS, I join people to help them or ask for help. I hope we have fun hunting together. I see no point in showing me I performed better or worse, what is the point? If you need to know, keep it to yourself. If I wanted to know I would be running the meter myself.

If you need to show off to others that you are top DPS, that is a sad way to find fun.

Monster Hunter has never been competitive. Are you new here? People do speed runs and post. That's about it.

Not every game needs a health bar or a dps digital meter in a game where people hunt to survive.

Plenty of competitive games.

I see you play warframe. If you want i can wash you up in that real quick so you can get your "dps" fix.

I swear Wilds gotta be the most toxic MH to date.

I just don't care and only care if it clogs up my screen.

Why would you post them? If they're upset they obviously didn't ask to see so either you were flexing or ...?
p.s you literally are posting nonsense when you post a dps summary lol read the mod developers posts dude. They outright tell you they can't get allied dps to display properly. So they added a, "hide others" option. You know so you can see YOUR progress and what YOU are doing and which of the things YOU are doing is better than the other things YOU are doing? Since DPS meters are ostensibly for self improvement not broadcasting other people's?
