Why do people get mad when DPS is posted?
Are you upset that your incompetence is being pointed out?

EDIT:
It seems to me that the biggest gripe with posting DPS is the fact that most players get very upset if they're not #1

Not everyone has a DPS build. It's perfectly acceptable to have low DPS, but getting upset over that is petty and immature.

Edit2: Insulting someone for having low DPS is completely unacceptable. That is not what this post is about. I was talking about POSTING damage numbers, not being an ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ about them. Major difference.

the game is about enjoyment, not who does the most damage. if i want to speed run then maybe, sure, but i would do it on my own.
posting the damage numbers is toxic in the eyes of many who enjoy monster hunter games, myself included.

Because it's pointless in MH. Getting downs is irreverent if you don't get a full set of breaks, slices and carves from it. If you just kill over and over you'll get three carves per run and that's it. Take the time to break all the parts, slice the tail and pop the wounds with the weapons that do it, keep the monster locked down with a hammer all before nabbing it with a trap\tranq and you'll be finished with that monster in 2-4 hunts. A DPS chaser will have to kill way, way more and ironically, take way, way longer.

It's also not an MMO so no one cares.

3 Reasons:

1) Because 99/100 times you're showing me doing more than triple your damage after you carted twice and I don't need you to be trying to cover up that fact by crying at our Hunting Horn main for being at the bottom of the DPS meter because they pulled triple duty keeping you from carting the third time.

2) Because going back over 20 years now to the earliest days of WoW when DPS meter addons first started to get mainstream popularity in games, it was always considered rude to spam chat with numbers nobody actually cares about because if they did care about them, they'd have the addon themselves.

3) Because you don't actually know how to read DPS meters, that's why you're posting the results in to chat. All DPS tracks is raw per-person output. It doesn't consider down time from when you carted the second time by pulling aggro and then aiming the attack at our charge blade user who was about to hit a wound but now has to recover from stun because you made them get hit, and it doesn't count for support playstyles who focus on keeping everybody else buffed and healed for their contribution instead of raw damage output.

Use the meter to gauge your own performance and get number tracking for builds. Spamming chat with numbers un-prompted makes you look like a douchebag, especially since they never mean what you think they mean and they actually show you being useless to the team.
If you don't understand that turning a PvE Co-Operation game into a pointless E-p33n contest is a sh!tty thing to do, there is no hope for you.

tryharding a casual game to people who dont want to tryhard is the same as me going into a lobby and telling people "get good" cause i think im better.

you're free to use dps meters if you want, but when you involve other people and they kick you or w/e, that was your own fault.

Not everyone wants to have a ♥♥♥ measuring contest.

so someone does something "Pointless" and you get angry about it?
I still don't understand where the problem is.

these are not valid excuses for getting angry.
If someone has 3x your DPS, so what? why do you care so much?

Yes you spamming numbers and raging at the Hunting Horn main because they saved you from carting for the third time on non-tempered Maggy instead of doing raw DPS which you focus on and still managed to do 1/3rd my DPS while I'm playing drunk tends to bring the mood down.

so...posting a metric is somehow a form of bragging?

I don’t even play multiplayer, but still.

It’s a casual non competitive game. If you want leaderboards, go play an fps, or start hardcore riding in an mmo and stop bothering people who just want to chill and hunt monsters.

It’s honestly weird that it even became a thing in MH, I haven’t heard about anyone making dps meters in souls games for example.
