Is there a quest that gives a ton of it? The few you get from auto gather is not enough.

Do you eat it or something? 2/5 villages can gather it and one of Azuz traders sell it

Nope. Get yourself 3 levels in botanist and head out to the Plains during the Inclemency. You'll find lots of bugs out there then.
