Better multiplayer settings
Does anyone know if there is a surefire way to keep randoms out of my quests while still allowing AI support hunters and friends to join? I like to have automatic sos flare on so i can have support hunters when my friends aren't around but im tired of randoms joining my quests and throwing the mission. I have passcode enabled and manual accept on yet randoms are still able to join. the only way i know of the keep them out is have it set to support hunters only but then my friends cant join me on quests. Does joining off SOS flares let people completely bypass the settings I have, and if so whats the point of even having multiplayer options. To my knowledge unless you're in an open lobby, there is no way for anyone to see your quests anyway besides the sos flare. Are those settings really only useful for people that play in public lobbies?

I tried doing that, but it made it so my friends werent able to join. Thats the only issue i had with that method. it seems like the sos flare that allows the AI to join also allow randoms to bypass passcodes and manual accept requests.
Yes, the sos flare automatically makes your quest public, that’s kind of the point of the sos flare, it makes your quest available to anyone that wishes to join.

If you only want your friends to join, don't use the sos flare. Just form a link party with them. That way they can join your quest directly.
So basically what I'm getting from this thread is that the game doesn't exactly allow me to do what I'm wanting to, without turning the allow players setting on and off every time my friends get on and get off. To my knowledge the SOS flare is the only way to allow AI to show up, but with the flare going there is no way to block randoms from joining. Unless I automatically flare, and the AI join then I cancel the SOS and friends would still be able to join from link party or squad lobby quests.

There are 2 "Multiplayer" Systems.

The first is Group play with other players. You start a quest, and anyone in your lobby or link party or squad can join, unless you password it or lower the number of allowed players.

That's the normal system, and no AI involved.

Then there is the "SOS Flare" System.

SOS Flare is just that. It's the "Oh ♥♥♥♥, I can't do this!" Emergency "Oh my god, I need help!" System. At which point AI will join, but also any other player that search for SOS Flares to join and find yours. It bypasses all restrictions and systems, because it's you admitting you can't kill the monster, you need help, and accepting any and all help. The AI is there a 'convience' for single player. Because in Rise and World, there was no AI helping you except your cat friend. So if you are single player, you were screwed and always solo. With Wilds, if you play offline single player, you can get AI to help you now and make hunts easier. while Solo.

there is, currently, no way to have AI and deny Randoms. AI is for the "Oh ♥♥♥♥, I can't do this alone" SOS Flares, which bypass all requirements so anyone can come 'help' you.

Quest settings > Sos flare > support hunter only.
Friends -> Join your link party.

Start quest, pop sos if you want ai, enjoy.

I've never played any other monster hunter title, so I'm not entirely sure how the games were previously. I just like having the AI around to take some aggro here and there. I have lost faith in random players because more often than not for some reason the ones that join me get absolutely folded. I just wanted to be able to have some AI around on tougher missions when my friends aren't on without having the randoms show up because the AI are far more reliable and wont cause my quest to fail. But I understand that's probably not how they want you to play the game.
