Because Monster Hunter always had this "there was an Ancient Civilization with advanced tech" background.
Alma isnt even the first character with eye glasses.
I gotta say it's funny people can suspend disbelief at a ship sailing through the sand but draw the line at a woman wearing glasses. I mean there's a Lance that's just a big plunger with a toilet lid for the shield. Don't take it so seriously because it has never taken itself that seriously.

This is a portrait of a Cardinal from 1600 wearing similar frames. It's not exactly "modern"
Her jacket also looks fine to me, it doesn't look out of place at all
Gun Lance
Charge Blade
And Switch Axe.
I mean, seriously? A lance that shoots bullets? Or a sword and shield that turns into an axe? Or an axe that turns into a sword?
And OP stops at glasses and clothing...
Edit: but speaking of Gunlance, my issue lies not with the fact that it shoots bullets, because we've made cane's that do that, and it's basically just a large Musket w/ Bayonet in concept. It's the reload. You swing the weapon (or thump it on the ground) spent casing are ejected.... And then new shells are magically loaded into the Lance?
CAPCOM EXPLAIN!
we had cosmetics to turn our cat into megaman, us into dante, eyepatches, various glasses, and as others have said: regular glasses have been a thing in many monster hunter games.
its just a style choice, it's not really that deep.
Monster Hunter has always emphasized fashion, but its style is deeply tied to the game's pre-industrial, medieval-fantasy setting.
While artistic freedom allows for creativity, the "rule of cool" must still align with the established world. Adding modern elements like modern glasses or hipster headband would break this coherence and feel completely out of place.
The armor sets are inspired by creatures and ancient cultures, staying consistent with the setting. This balance between creativity and consistency is key to maintaining immersion. It ensures the game's identity remains cohesive, allowing players to fully experience its world.
Of course, there are fun elements like cosplay, quirky costumes and weapons like the swordfish. But these shouldn’t and can’t be applied to a main character in the game. These playful designs are meant for lighthearted moments and not for characters who need to stay true to the world’s tone and immersion.

you'd think the hunters would be a lot more effective if they just sniped every monster from range
