Are MH games fun solo?
Never playeda MH before but was curious about trying out Wilds. Can you get cool gear and rewards playing solo? Or is it basically impossible unless you're a MH God?

Not only it is fun, solo is a superior experience to playing with multiplayer sweats whining about cutscenes and damage and ignoring all exploration

i played MHW + Iceborne almost completely solo, and finished all story monster except the last 2 ( Ala + Fatty). it is not only possible , but fun if you want to test yourself. multiplayer make hunts trivial and if you are not learned yet, other people will carry you. by playing solo on the other hand, you will HAVE to learn the monster, and once you figure it out it will be immensely satisfying. You will get rewards and drops by playing solo, yes.
Some monsters are designed around multiplayer tough, but these are very few ( there were only two ot three in Worldborne)

Ive started solo back when you didnt bring a palico to your hunts.

Def it is enjoyable solo now. Its one of the reasons I love it. Like FromSoft Souls games, you can either do it single player or enjoy it almost fully online.

90% of my time in World was done solo, with my second playthrough of Rise on PC done with one other. It's enjoyable either way, and can make redoing the same fights for materials less tedious.

However, I don't recommend doing the harder end-game fights with another person unless they know the fights very well. It's easier to solo Primordial Malzeno than doing it with another person.

You also don't have to worry about them whining about you using the IG when they take up all three carts...

I played Rise and World plus its addons up and down. It's completly possible to do everything alone. If you play in multiplayer there is the advantage the monster changes the aggro between all players and solo it's only you and maybe your Palico (Cat). But in multiplayer the HP of the monster also rises.

Monster HP scales from 1-3 players. With 3 players it has the same amount of HP like with 4 players. So, in terms of HP, it is recommended to play alone, with two players or with four players.

The correct question is: "Is MH fun multiplayer?", to which the answer would be: "Once in a blue moon, you may have fun".

besides, wilds will allow you to call upon NPC AI hunters - and if they're anything like Rise, they're better than 90% of the playerbase - if you don't want to play alone nor put up with randoms.

Absolutely! I played all of World solo except for the hardest ones.

I play solo here and there. It's great for polishing your dodging and attacking skills without any expectations from others. So I often solo a boss first before re-fighting it online. Solo hunts can get a bit samey after a while if it's the same monster over and over. But in return it also means you never fail due to anyone's fault other than your own.

Multiplayer can remove a lot of monotony of hunting something solo over and over again. You can learn from random players sometimes, see what cool builds they have going on. If the hunt is tough, randoms are more likely to carting all over the place though. Friends on the other hand generally don't have any of the problems that randoms do, and almost always make the hunt objectively easier if they're around your skill level.

of course you can, did you think these are mmos or something? they are normal linear video games, just with optional coop
Nihrahk 2024 年 11 月 12 日 下午 5:24
Definitely. I mostly play solo and had always had a blast. Also, going solo just lets you screw around without needing to think of others. Other people can be a bit sweaty and going for their min max builds and whatever. I just like to chill, hunt some monsters and have fun, I don't care about doing max damage and killing the monster under 5 minutes.

Also, I like using mods that adds new moves to monsters, and just stuff that adds more challenge in general, and I don't want to risk ruining the experience of others. Especially now that crossplay exists. How will mods like that even look for people on console? Will it cause their game to crash or will they just get hit by invisible attacks and such?

Since World, there has almost been no point in multiplayer except for raids cus of the HP multiplier that wasnt a thing pre-World.
With the exception of siege missions, every monster in World could be solo'ed for its entire lifespan. There has been a patch where siege monsters also became doable alone. So there are no impossible quests in that regard. Whether you can have fun... how willing are you to take responsibility for your own actions? What kind of drive do you have to fight and win? These are questions you must answer for yourself to figure out whether you can be bothered to fight monsters solo, as the solo experience tends to be a lot more punishing. On the other hand, if you wish to wing it a little and rely on 3 other people that are more or less in the same mode then multiplayer will work out better.

Eh..... Some people will say.

"Yea its perfectly fun solo"

But honestly MH shines the best when you're playing with a group of friends chatting and laughing when shenanigans ensue.

MH just feels really hollow in a lot of ways when playing alone. I'm sure some like it but its just the game at its best imo.

The best and most efficient way to play is solo.

Easier to position yourself from an attack.

Monster is easier to read.

You don't need to waste a gem slot on Brace (tripped resistance)

Don't have to deal with gunner class. Gunner class and host usually pull the monster and if you are melee player, you ended up playing walking simulator.

I do only multiplayer when I'm bored and that's all.
