Why did 450k people play this game?

Can someone explain to me what the deal is? I'm not really a gamer (I just test games), so I don’t fully understand the essence of this game, which I honestly didn’t even get. I don’t know the story or at least I didn’t notice that there is one, and while I understand it’s in BETA, but the game doesn’t look particularly impressive to me. It has very poor performance on an RTX 4090, averaging around 50 to 60 FPS on 4K Ultra, which doesn’t seem impressive. The mechanics don’t look impressive to me either, and overall, the gameplay just doesn’t click. I believe my taste is different from those 450k people who played it, which is admittedly a huge number. I’m not trying to be contradictory here, I just wanted and need your opinions. What have your experiences with the game been? What did you like about it, etc., etc.?

Very solid gameplay loop. Great environments.

The fighting can feel janky but there is a very high level of mastery possible there. It's so much better than auto combos where it auto targets or dynamically picks the best attack. It's like a fighting game where you need to do the right inputs at the right time

I think you meant "clunky". monster hunter is not janky. I would say elder scrolls and fallout is janky.
