Optimizing a pile of crap, map design is also a pile of crap, and the focused mode is the absolute worst of it all.
On the first day, it was already riddled with bugs like afterimages, polygons, and terrain glitches – you could excuse it as demo issues, but maxing out the CPU is just plain stupidity. My 11th-gen i5 was totally overwhelmed. Capcom didn’t want to pay Nvidia and tried to handle it themselves, but what they came up with is garbage. Don’t even bother looking at the so-called minimum requirements on the official site; the actual minimum configuration is more like the recommended setup.

The map is empty and meaningless – what’s the point of making it so large? Just for monsters to run around? I don’t get it. Why do these monsters love changing areas so much? Every two to three minutes, they’re off to another zone. You chase them down on a mount, and as soon as you arrive, you barely get a couple of hits before they run off again. Can’t they just stay put for a proper fight? If the first impression of Monster Hunter World’s Ancient Forest was ‘amazing,’ this barren wasteland of gray sand dunes only makes me feel like I’m eating sand outside the screen – it’s bland and boring.

And the focused mode... seriously, does Capcom really think this is fun? Throwing away twenty years of left-stick adjustments just like that? Thank you, Capcom – you’re a real genius. This mode is a total departure from traditional gameplay, and with how it’s forced on players, if you don’t use it, you’re in trouble. Not to mention the wound mechanic, where everyone has to scramble for it; if you don’t get it, your weapon is effectively crippled. Forcing this feature into regular movement and combat feels disjointed at best. The grappling hook, aside from softening the monster, has no impact on combat at all. But with this mode, if you don’t enable focused mode, certain weapons become useless. Great job, Capcom, you really nailed it.

If there isn’t another demo or a statement about adjusting the system, canceling my preorder is a done deal.

New to PC specs, but isn't Gen11 Intel5 worse than Gen13?
Idk, just Google a bit on this and someone somewhere said something about Gen14 or 13 going to be outdated soon or something? (Planning to get a new gaming laptop)

gen14 is still a solid choice at current stage for laptop, consider intel's desktop cpu did have issues so I would not say their new products will be stable.

This game doesn't run fine. I have 5900x and 7900 xtx. The fps in town is 45 and frame gen I can get 90 to 135. In the open world and both overclocked. Turned down settings and up the settings. If this game is heavily cpu demanding it doesn't matter. It doesn't run at 60 with decent hardware. I don't want to hear this crap oh it runs fine on my 4090. You need a decent cpu too. Current gen cpu and highest end cpu needed to do 60 fps at all times? I could sit here and say I could technically get 180 to 270 fps if I use amf2 and frame gen at the same time. This isn't acceptable for the normal pc setups.

ignore those whoever said runs fine on 4090, either trolls or have no clue the importance of CPU. It's too heavy on the cpu side and that's horrible, out of my 17 friends half of them are considering upgrade their hardware at this point.

Optimization is one of the worst but I guess its just a beta thing. I hope they will optimize it in the final release. For a Non RTX game this game need Framegen to get 60fps and even with it Framegen it sucks...

Performance:
Immaterial. It's a demo -- exposing issues manifesting on the myriad rig set-ups on the market, is what the primarily purpose of the playtest was.

Bugs:
As above.

Monster relocation:
A good thing:
- the larger map needs to be utilised
- the Sekrit has to have a purpose (the steed in 'Rise' was almost redundant)
- every fight being the same, repetitive, rote process of a damage threshold triggering relocation to the same areas, was boring and not worth replaying -- a formula that would feel even worse for the new game's layout

Map size:
As long as they populate it with lots of activity and exploration opportunities, it will be seen as good move. Elden Ring's open-world's biggest bane is that it hasn't much in it to do but traversal. The gripe I personally have is with the rather linear nature of traversing the maps, especially in light of the free grappling system that was in 'Rise', and the open style map that does not really need the invisible walls and exploration limitations which the small scope of the previous games' did.

Focus attack:
Didn't used it (HBG), and with the exception of the lightning dragon, the monsters in the demo were easy enough to not even require it. Seems to me to be a take it or leave it mechanic, just like the monster grapple that was with 'Iceborne'.

Focus mode has really turned me off of the game. Feels super clunky and slapped together, Just a completely unnecessary mechanic.

And, yeah, the open world design has the same problem as most open world games, which is that most of the map is pointless empty space. I'd rather have smaller, denser maps that are worth exploring on foot instead of an ugly wasteland that requires a mount just to skip past it all on the way to the objective.
