Lance feels terrible.
it's like night and day. Almost all of the positional control that you had playing lance is gone in this game. Powerguard's counter attack you can't seem to control the direction of anymore, and there seems to be no way to enter the counter stance without having to do High Thrust 3 times first. It really feels like a massive downgrade. Compared to World and previous entries the Lance just feels like sludge and sluggish imo

I rescind this post. Lance took some getting used too. Damage is low. But that can change.

Was fun getting perfect guards and being the wall against reyrey.
Honestly I don't even care about the low damage, its always had low damage compared to other weapons but made up for it with uptime and easy positioning. What I'm more upset about is the big nerf to mobility which just makes it feel super sluggish.

I quite enjoyed the Wilds-version of Lance. Instead of needing to time my Counter Guard to get a quick attack in, I can just Guard normally and press attack button for a little or big counter after the monster bonks against my shield, it felt great. And they added some more interest with extra pokes, -and- they didn't touch the streamroll-sprint so I'm happy.

Not any cons? when you dash atk forward and swing back to change position, you will fail to swing back if your focus mode is on, and it will trigger front swing instead. thats is fatal cons.

I liked Lance in World much more. I play her so long but in Wilds it just feels bad. They have to change something and I guess they will. Many poeple said lance was not optimal in Beta - also damage wise compares to his brother Gunlance.

Lance felt amazing in World, didn't really play Rise but it still felt good in the demo. I really hope they bring some good changes for lance in the balance changes they mentioned.

Keeping focus mode on for smoother play is just counterintuitive, why do I need a solution for a problem that wasn't really a problem till now? The constant re-adjusting of the focus mode reticle and the presence of the reticle itself is very immersion breaking and kind of a nuisance to keep doing throughout a hunt.

Demo lance doesn't mean it has a different/slower moveset which is what most people are upset about anyway, not a lack of damage.

It's not damage that's the problem. it's the moveset. everything is slower, and more sluggish compared to previous games. At least in Tri I could go straight into a counter thrust stance on a whim, now I have to do 3 pokes first or I'll just power guard. It feels like ass.

yep exactly, sure adding the perfect block somewhat diversifies the moveset a bit but it feels a lot riskier to use now. having shield up and then countering vs completely defenseless and then trying to perfect block just means lance just became a lot less safe to play.
The combo finisher counter just feels tacked onto the moveset just to make the lance 'feel' more like a parry weapon.

PLaying lance for a long time. Wilds lance feels amazing. Sounds like a personal problem.

Yep. Journalists were discouraged from using the weapon because it will be getting these major changes.

I might be wrong on this, but I think they deliberately nerfed some weapons with future dlc in mind. Like, what we see now is only 70% of the original vision.
