I still love the weapon overall, and will probably try it again when I beat the progression in Wilds.
For example, like it was mentioned, a lot of the aiming is done through focus mode, where you hit the focus button to be able to turn while attacking. This works on most of lance attacks, even in the middle of triple thrusts. It also allows you to get quick mini-hops in between attacks of the triple thrust, but doesn't work on triple high thrusts for some reason.
While most people prefer turning on focus all the time by using the toggle in the options, I prefer to just tap focus when reaiming as it automatically turns your hunter the way your camera is looking when you tap it if you're doing a move that can be reaimed.
Counter stance is gone, but for the better as it's replaced with the instant counter out of perfect guard, which can be followed up with the triple thrust finishers, and is freely aimed even without using focus.
You can still counter out of a power guard, but I'm iffy on the specifics as I didn't get nearly as much time on the beta as I wished due to work, so that was something I never got to really test.
Monster Hunter is a game of milliseconds, and that extra time it takes you to raise a shield to block is basically the whole wide world for a window for the monster to hit you in between you attacking and you being able to guard after attacking. If I'm gonna play a commit weapon (which lance most definitely is now), I might as well play Charge Blade or Greatsword.
Just wait for full release and re-learn it.
