Wilds has the worst iteration of Lance since 3rd gen
Im saying this as long time hardcore lance main, been using lance almost exclusively ever since 3 Ultimate and every subsequent MH release. Probably has more than 4000+ lance usage across several games.

So i feel like i have it on good authority to say that MHWilds iteration of lance has been thoroughly disappointing to the point that I may even say that i hate it now. Not only that it is outclassed by other weapons in this generation, it's somehow even worse than the previous generation (Rise and world). A downgrade dare I say.

I know lance isn't supposed to be a flashy weapon, it never was. But what it was is simple and reliable. I feel like Wilds has taken that away.

The main gripes with Lance is that it's a slow and clunky weapon which makes it one of the least popular weapon, Wilds somehow made it even slower and clunkier without the added bonus of high damage output that usually comes with a slow and clunky weapon.

At this point gunlance has a better defensive capability, a more reliable instablock, highly rewarding counters and arguably even better mobility. Those were all the edge that lance had over gunlance higher burst damage, but now it's gone. And I'm sad

Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Friendship ended with lance, gunlance is my main now

How long have you played it? I didn't really like it at first but after a couple hours I'm really enjoying it and getting my best times with it compared to the other weapons I've tried. It's definitely different, but the changes are pretty fun once you get used to it.

As a Lance user I'm used to being treated as a second class citizen (in the best of days), so whatever. I like the combo finisher at least.

Well, most of my 5 hours playtime was spent either using lance or Gunlance. I'm not joking when i say im a hardcore lance main, which is to say that lance was pretty much the only weapon im good at. So it's sad that my first solo kill of rey dau was with gunlance, a weapon that im not usually good at.

I hope they'll buff the damage in the release version

As a long time lance main since Tri, I have to say that while there was a learning curve, lance is the best it's been so far.

Frankly, Wilds works different from other MHs. Everything is slower if you check out the other weapons as well. It's not obvious in the trailers since it's movement and combos that are affected the most from what I've seen.

And while lance's pokes are slow and clunky, the new fourth part of the combo is pretty great, and there's no need to put in a hop in between combos anymore. And better yet, guarding has become far better. A perfect guard is like getting a free guard5 and I can tank Rey Dau's one-shot attack using perfect guard while only taking like 10% health damage.

Then there's the free and instant shield bash you get for perfect guarding, not to mention the counter follow up you can activate after that. Then there's all the new repositioning and aiming mechanics so you can keep up the pressure without stopping to adjust.

Lance is far more aggressive than ever before, while the controls have been simplified slightly.

It'll take time to learn, and while I do have some complaints, overall lance is in a good spot.

My biggest worry instead is that most of the other weapons are probably in that much of a better position like they tend to be.

Worse than World? I loved the Lance I World. Could mount anything and the pain train run is so fun!

Yeah this was my main concern too, while i don't fancy the fact that they removed regular counter (it's either an instablock or a power guard now), they also straight up nerfed the lunging thrust. With some time, i may get used to it. But the fact remains that as it is now, Lance damage output is falling way behind the other options

I completely agree.
My honest opinion is that Wilds Lance has deteriorated into a Middle Thrust BOT.
Very boring weapon. And I don't have enough right thumbs.

Why did Capcom take the "COUNTER THRUST" away from us?
This technique was Lance's specialty.
Like True Charged Slash for Great Sword, Zero Sum Discharge for Switch Axe , etc.
WHY TOKUDA !!!!, FUJIOKA(Master Lancer) !!!!
It has a negative impact on everything for lancer.

Furthermore, the speed was also slowed down.

What a cruel treatment.

*sigh*

They removed Counter Thrust because now you can string from a poke into guard much quicker than previous iteration, fairly quick when you try it, as well as you can attack back much quicker from blocking with guard.

basically Guard can now function identically to Counter Thrust in the combo, like counter thrust with 1 less button input (R2 + Circle -> R2)

Payback thrust from guard is slower than a high thrust, but middle thrust is still the same after blocking with guard

I'll say it's a upgrade because Counter Thrust has that problem that they can force into high thrust after block a single instance of attack. if the knockback from that attack is too weak, or it's your teammate that trigger it, it may just fail to guard the attack from monster. it also make no sense too because it may indirectly punish player for taking Guard skill in rare circumstances.

Hi, Urkikk

Thank you for your comment. I would be happy to hear your opinion.

Yes, i understand too.
I feel that I don't like this decision.

It used to be that you could choose to guard or counter.
Newbie Lancer select guard or BackGuardDash, Veteran Lancer select counter.
This is game.
Wilds Lance in open beta will automatically counter every time.
Automatic counter is not a game, and there is nothing interesting about it.
And because it is an automatic counter, the rewards are low.

Sunbreak had Rampage Decorations "Guard Bash".
This skill has the exact same name as Automatic Counter.
The two "Guard Bash" have almost the same name and effect, but there is a difference in whether the body moves or does not move when activated.
This further complicates the problem.

Wilds "Guard Bash" is an inferior version of Sunbreak "Guard Bash". For now.
Oh CAPCOM, you took away Lancer's Soul and added something like this?

You can do better, I believe CAPCOM and Monster Hunter development team.
Give me more love from Monster Hunter development team, Lance is the least popular weapon in Monster Hunter Series (The reason why it is not popular is because its attack power is intentionally kept low).

I'm not asking for more power, but please use it more and make it a fun and cool weapon.
I don't like it. Become a middle thrust bot and Automatic Counter.
In that case, it would be better to fight with a different weapon, as you would have more techniques, deal more damage, and have cooler movements.

But I don't deny that urkikk found Wilds Lance entertaining, and I don't expect you to agree with me.

I just wanted to let you know that there are other players out there who share the same opinion as MrBlitzpunk.

I would have liked to play an evolved version of the lance like this video in Monster Hunter Wilds.

Breaking News, man plays Lance a handful of times in a new game with new systems and new combos, it doesn't work the way he's used to, and hates it.

Edit: I'm a hardcore SnS main. I've mained SNS since I started in 4U, and while I've picked up every weapon in the years since, it's still my go to weapon. Guess what happened to me in the Wilds beta? I fumbled inputs, constantly. My muscle memory kicked in to activate certain attacks that have been changed, or I'd try to use the new attacks and mess up, or I'd try get used to the new positioning attacks and whiff the rest of my combo. Shockingly, someone with thousands of hours of SnS experience didn't master the weapon in a brand new game immediately. It's the same for you, give it more time than 5 hours split between two weapons in an unoptimized beta and I promise you that you'll get more comfortable with it, this goes for the IG haters too

After I saw the changes to Gunlance, I figured it'd edge out the Lance as a lot of people's mains. The mobility and constant shelling it has now is very enticing for those that enjoy high defensive capability paired with good damage. Honestly, it looks as mobile as older iterations of the LBG now.

I spent over 40 hours with the IG, and while I do see the use and appeal of the new additions, the more awkward controls and loss of aerial maneuverability, paired with the fact that the empowered, non-hold O aerial attack feels absolutely useless now with only hitting once even on tall or flying monsters, the IG hasn't received the love that other weapons got.

It got DS and RSS, but doesn't flow as well as it used to, even on the ground. The aerial Focus Strike is one of the worst examples of this, leaving you plummeting after using it, with no way to dodge or follow up after.

IG main who dabbles in SnS.

Fully agreed! The new changes are actually fantastic once you adapt. I think the devs have really been cooking.

A lot of my complaints would be addressed if they'd simply alter the control scheme a bit. Holding O and ▲ is not great for a weapon that needs to aim, and there's no way I'm spending $200 on a DualSense Edge just to address this.

I just preaimed the camera, held the button down and then used the free run to reposition to hit the attack.

Though I do think swapping L2 and Circle and setting focus to toggle would make a large improvement for IG.
