I play on ultra/2k with motion blur/vinette thingy/frame generation off and the game never looks sharp or really high res. It always has a grainy look to it no matter what I try in the settings. The game is not ugly at all but far from good looking. This is really a turn off 3 month before release.

Capcom loves over-the-top AA. World's default settings were also extremely blurry, the difference is that now we're basically stuck with the whole upscaling package.

It looks really weird and blurry for me as well.

2560x1440
All at maximum settings for best appearance.

Even if you set your resolution to X value and render distance do 100 you will get a lower internal resolution, dont know why they do this.

Curse of terribly implemented TAA, I think only DOOM Eternal is the only game where TAA is implemented very well. TAA + FXAA both anti-aliasing that softens the image (I cannot believe RE Engine developers recommends a joint effort to Vaseline the image in all of its games). We also live in a generation of early AI/Hardware upscaling techniques that aren't quite there yet and may take many many iterations and hardware improvements to look seamless especially from a lower resolution like 720p/1080p.

TAA is so baked into most modern game engines these days and I understand why but developers just don't understand how to use it, FF16 is awful with it, TAA only looks sharp when you are completely stood still, any movement causes blur in a lot of games with it. MSAA is expensive and yes has to be implemented differently with modern engines but it's still so much better, Counter-Strike 2's MSAA is so clean.

Even though my computer can't handle it, only way it looks good is 200% resolution scale no AA

Is there any way to bypass this minimal vram requirement? Like how god of war ragnarok has a way to bypass it?

Turn DLAA off or DLSS off. fixed it for me.

The crazy thing is, MH Rise, using the SAME ENGINE, runs like a dream at 4K + DLAA, while looking super crisp/clean. I just fired it up early, was running at 120 FPS without any upscaling or frame gen and my GPU was chilling at 60%~ usage. Couldnt believe how much better it looked and ran.

In MH Wilds, I need DLSS Balanced + FG to achieve consistent 60+ fps, and the game looks like ♥♥♥♥. Its like its always being rendered at less than 25% of my resolution or something.

But it gets even weirder. Have you noticed how good the game looks in the char creator? It looks clean and sharp like it should, like Rise does. In the main menu as well, also looks good there. Its only when you log in and start playing the game that it suddenly goes potato mode.

Oh and the sharpening setting doesnt do anything either. Game looks exactly the same with 0 or 100 sharpening. Theres clearly something broken with the renderer/options and I pray its just beta things and they fix it by launch because this is unacceptable.

game does look good in the character creator and in the main menu, the real gameplay looks awful tho

I didn't know Rise was made in the RE Engine, that actually just confuses me more as to why Wilds runs and looks so bad

Ahh yes the good ol' FXAA. the equivalent of rubbing vaseline on the monitor.

Their DLSS implementation is broken.
