Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread
We hope you’re all enjoying or will be enjoying Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test while we hope all of our fans will have a great time with the game, there will always be some cases here and there where the game may not function correctly under certain environments and / or hardware combinations.

We’ve set up this troubleshooting and feedback thread for you all to share any technical issues you may be having with the game.

Before providing any reports, please ensure you've followed the steps below to rule out problems with your PC, Steam, or the game’s files:

Troubleshooting Guide

1. Check the game’s system requirements
Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined on the bottom of the Steam Store page ; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running.

If you do meet the minimum specifications but not the recommended specifications, you may want to try turning down the graphics settings, if you haven't already. Please note that most graphical settings changes require the game to be restarted in order for the changes to take effect.

If you’re using a multi-GPU setup such as NVIDIA’s SLI or AMD’s Crossfire technologies, we recommend experimenting with disabling these settings, as they may cause compatibility issues with the game.

Capcom does not warrant nor officially provide technical support for PCs that do not meet the official, minimum system requirements, as well as guarantee normal game operations with mobile GPUs, external GPUs, and pre-release builds of Windows OS provided via Windows Insider Program.

2. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception / exclusion list
Some launching issues may be attributed to certain Anti-Virus software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the Anti-Virus and Firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.

Note: To quickly access the following folders, press Windows Key + R then copy and paste the folder URL below.

  • MonsterHunterWildsBeta.exe Default Location:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWildsBetatest
  • Steam.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
  • Steam AppData Default Location: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Steam

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please visit one of the following links:
*For Bitdefender, you will need to also add the game’s .exe file to the program’s Whitelist. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Bitdefender
  2. Go to the Protection tab
  3. Click “View Feature”
  4. Click the gear icon inside the “Advanced Thread Defense” box
  5. Select “Add applications to the whitelist”
  6. Browse and navigate to the .exe file
  7. Once the .exe file is added, close Bitdefender and relaunch the game

3. Give administrator privileges to Steam and the game
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the game’s .exe file in administrator mode as well.

4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.
  • For the latest Nvidia drivers, click here [www.nvidia.com]
  • For the latest AMD drivers, click here [www.amd.com]

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation.

To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller [www.guru3d.com] (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.
  1. Run DDU and uninstall old video driver
  2. Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC
  3. Run the latest DirectX installer package[www.microsoft.com]] and reboot your PC
IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.

5. Check your graphics driver settings & computer power settings
To reiterate, some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops with dual GPUs, such as an Intel Integrated Graphics Processor + Nvidia Dedicated Graphics Card, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the dedicated graphics drivers.

If using a dual Nvidia / Intel GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Install the latest  Intel integrated drivers [www.intel.com]
  2. Reboot your PC
  3. Open Nvidia Control Panel
  4. Click "Manage 3D Settings"
  5. Go to "Program Settings" and then select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking "Add")
  6. Scroll down to "Power Management Mode"
  7. Set it to "Prefer Maximum Performance" / "High Performance Processor" instead of "Adaptive"
  8. Close Nvidia Control Panel and launch the game
If using a dual AMD "Switchable Graphics" GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Under "Switchable Graphics", select the High Performance section and select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking "Browse")
  3. Click "Apply"
  4. Close AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and launch the game
Additionally, double-check your desktop / laptop’s power settings by performing the following:
  1. If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Select "Power Options"
  4. Select "Change Plan Settings"
  5. Select "Change advanced power settings"
  6. From within the dropdown menu, select "High performance" and click "Apply" then "OK"
  7. Launch the game

6. Update DirectX
We recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer [www.microsoft.com] to ensure DirectX is fully up to date.

7. Update your Windows Media Player codecs
Certain cutscene segments use video playback which relies on Windows' default Media Player codec.

If you're experiencing video playback issues during cutscenes, please try installing
Microsoft's Media Feature Pack [support.microsoft.com]. Certain Windows editions, particularly in EU territories and Korea, may not have Windows Media Player and its codec preinstalled.

8. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
Try verifying the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and launch Steam
  2. From the “Library” section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu
  3. Select the “Local files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game files...” button
  4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes
Important: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

This process allows the Steam client to scan every single file you downloaded for this game, verify checksum of each, and compare that against the file manifest data on Steam's content server. If the file is missing or has a different checksum value, you will receive a message stating "X files failed to validate and will be reacquired." What this means is that some files have either been deleted, or may have been corrupted. Click “Close,” and Steam will automatically download and / or replace the problematic files.

9. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please confirm that there are no other applications running at the same time.
"Powerful software like video recording applications can compromise the game's performance and stability by using a lot of CPU, GPU, memory, or I/O bandwidth.
If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing."

10. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, delete your shader cache files.
As some graphical issues may be caused by damaged shader cache files, you may want to try deleting these files by performing the following:

- For AMD GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Go to “Global Gaming Experience” under “Gaming” and perform “Reset Shader Cache”
  3. Press the Windows key and launch Disk Cleanup
  4. Select your C drive and proceed to “OK” with the "DirectX Shader Cache" checkbox ticked to delete the files
  5. Delete “shader.cache” and “shader.cache2” located in the installation folder containing MonsterHunterWildsBeta.exe
- For NVIDIA GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Go to “Global Settings” under “Manage 3D Settings” and disable “Shader Cache Size”

11. If you are experiencing crashes caused by insufficient VRAM while performing shader warming, please contact Intel Corporation or the PC vendor.
As your CPU may be damaged in this scenario, we recommend contacting Intel Corporation or your PC vendor.

12. If Frame Generation option is grayed out and cannot be enabled, try the following:
For Windows 10, turn on “GPU scheduling” on your Window system from “Graphics settings” under “Display” in “System” settings.
If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend updating your driver to the latest version.

13. If you experience input delay or performance degradation when using frame generation, please try the following.
In the "Options" menu, select "Display" and set the vertical synchronization to "Disable."

Just a second or two after a mission starts, I get instantly kicked out by the game itself ("Player has withdrawn from the quest"), my character disappears from the screen, and then the game crashes with code 0xFFF1.

A screenshot of the error: https://imgur.com/a/k669iH0

I don't believe this is a graphics or host-related issue, because the game runs fine and I can roam around everywhere without crashes or graphical glitches. I can run the game in any configuration. The game runs heavily (almost everything at 100% including CPU and GPU, FPS between 50 and 60), but somewhat smoothly.

Is there some kind of quota for playing the demo? At most I did three missions so far, so I wonder why I'm getting this error...

My config:

* CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X @ 3.8GHz
* GPU: Radeon RX 6800 XT
* MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite (rev. 1.0; Bios version: F40d)
* MEM: 32GB (4 x 8GB) @ 3200
* STORAGE: WD Blue SN550 1TB
* OS: Windows 10 PRO (version 22H2)

Some remarks:
* AMD Graphics Driver version: 24.10.1
* Windows 10 properly updated (no pending updates in Windows Update)
* Graphics drivers properly updated
* Re-size Bar enabled, Above 4G Decoding enabled
* No CPU/GPU overclocking
* XMP profile enabled (to achieve 3200 MT/s on memory)

P.S.: I also played the game on Linux (via Proton). It runs a bit worse than in Windows, just a bit slower (e.g. with less FPS), but the 0xFFF1 error occurs there as well.

try moving the crashreport.exe and crashreportdll into a subfolder, it fixed it for me for a while but then it happened again. it feels kinda random atm but maybe it'll work out better for you
Xbox One controller is not working whatsoever. The Steam Library page says that "Controllers Not Supported" but the game is clearly designed to be played with one and there's even a whole part of the setup PRE MAIN MENU that asks you what controller icons you want to see, so that's clearly a load of sh**e. literally unplayable.
When I went afk for a bit my hunter suddenly changed their model after a load screen into a completely different person. A reload of the safe luckily fixed it tho

no matter what i do, my character's skin texture looks like a giant pixelated rash. i've changed settings and restarted my game to no avail

rtx 2060, i7-10700k, 32gb on medium graphics (no upscaling)

I"m having the exact same issue. I have yet to find a solution to this problem. I'm using every troubleshoot in the book. If you figure it out, let me know.

Yeah exact same issue here. Graphics appear to be locked somehow as changing from lowest to ultra does literally nothing to overall look or performance. Game runs relatively smooth (50-70 fps) just looks like potato. Freedom unite looked better.
Hi. Thanks for letting me play the beta. Is it possible to add footsteps in the sand? More realistic thanks.
Hello, everyone. I have been trying to play the open beta on PC a lot today, but for whatever reason the game will just keep crashing, and I have no idea why. I understand the performance and optimization aren't great, but I have an AMD Ryzen 7 7700X, 32 GB of RAM and a MSI GeForce RTX 3060 Gaming GPU with 12 GB of VRAM, and also Windows 11, so I definitely meet the requirements for the game. Even then, no matter how much I tinker the settings, the game will eventually crash, preventing me from progressing. I couldn't even kill the Doshaguma because of this, and I've tried everything to solve the problem by myself and nothing worked. I updated everything OS related, including the graphics drivers, after which I restarted my PC, then I added the game's folder as an exception for the antivirus so that it ignores it. After that, I verified the game's files and gave both the game itself and Steam admin permissions, and still the problem persists... So I'm writing this here to see if anyone can help me fix the problem, I have some of the crash reports in case I need them. Look, I've been so hyped to play this game for so long, and I actually don't mind not being able to play the beta, I will just wait for full release, but it would be so dissapointing to not be able to play it when it actually comes out even when I clearly meet the requirements. Been a Monster Hunter fan since Tri, and I think I have never been so hyped for a game in my life, it would be so sad to not be able to play this one, so if anyone has any idea what could be causing this problem, or how to directly send the crash reports to Capcom, please let me know. I will gladly upload them here if you ask for it.
Thank you for your time, I really appreciate it.
I'm running at 20fps, but task manager is saying EVERYTHING is at or under 50% usage. I meet all of the system requirements.
Stuff that is broken with the game:

-Any form of Upscaler reduces the draw distance of grass and stuff like that and that shouldnt be how it works.
Also generally the quality of upscaling is very bad compared to other games even when you use native Resolution (DLAA) its worse than having it off completly which is very broken.

-FSR3 Framegen is broken has ghosting

-Allow us to use DLSS + FSR3 FG because most people on steam have 2000/3000 Series Nvidia Card
I can't even get the damn game to open!! I am now on my 5th attempt at reinstalling it. I have tried moving the crash report files, I have tried deleting them, I have tried installing it onto a different drive, I am now about to try and run steam through administrator. Yes all my specs meet the required things. The second I press the Play button it automatically and immediately brings up the crash report thing and when I had moved / deleted it I still had the play button but it would change to stop like 30 seconds after I pressed play and then it would change back to play after 30 seconds.
They didn't optimize Dragon's Dogma (same engine), so they won't optimize this one either

At least Dragond Dogma works with any Cpu . You can't boot up WIld Beta without a Cpu with AVX2 Instruction set .

If your Having that error and your Cpu have AVX2 instructions set than something else is happening . I get the same crash but my actual Cpu doesn't have AVX2 but i could boot and play Dragons Dogma 2 .
