Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread
We hope you’re all enjoying or will be enjoying Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test while we hope all of our fans will have a great time with the game, there will always be some cases here and there where the game may not function correctly under certain environments and / or hardware combinations.

We’ve set up this troubleshooting and feedback thread for you all to share any technical issues you may be having with the game.

Before providing any reports, please ensure you've followed the steps below to rule out problems with your PC, Steam, or the game’s files:

Troubleshooting Guide

1. Check the game’s system requirements
Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined on the bottom of the Steam Store page ; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running.

If you do meet the minimum specifications but not the recommended specifications, you may want to try turning down the graphics settings, if you haven't already. Please note that most graphical settings changes require the game to be restarted in order for the changes to take effect.

If you’re using a multi-GPU setup such as NVIDIA’s SLI or AMD’s Crossfire technologies, we recommend experimenting with disabling these settings, as they may cause compatibility issues with the game.

Capcom does not warrant nor officially provide technical support for PCs that do not meet the official, minimum system requirements, as well as guarantee normal game operations with mobile GPUs, external GPUs, and pre-release builds of Windows OS provided via Windows Insider Program.

2. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception / exclusion list
Some launching issues may be attributed to certain Anti-Virus software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the Anti-Virus and Firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.

Note: To quickly access the following folders, press Windows Key + R then copy and paste the folder URL below.

  • MonsterHunterWildsBeta.exe Default Location:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWildsBetatest
  • Steam.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
  • Steam AppData Default Location: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Steam

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please visit one of the following links:
*For Bitdefender, you will need to also add the game’s .exe file to the program’s Whitelist. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Bitdefender
  2. Go to the Protection tab
  3. Click “View Feature”
  4. Click the gear icon inside the “Advanced Thread Defense” box
  5. Select “Add applications to the whitelist”
  6. Browse and navigate to the .exe file
  7. Once the .exe file is added, close Bitdefender and relaunch the game

3. Give administrator privileges to Steam and the game
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the game’s .exe file in administrator mode as well.

4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.
  • For the latest Nvidia drivers, click here [www.nvidia.com]
  • For the latest AMD drivers, click here [www.amd.com]

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation.

To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller [www.guru3d.com] (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.
  1. Run DDU and uninstall old video driver
  2. Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC
  3. Run the latest DirectX installer package[www.microsoft.com]] and reboot your PC
IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.

5. Check your graphics driver settings & computer power settings
To reiterate, some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops with dual GPUs, such as an Intel Integrated Graphics Processor + Nvidia Dedicated Graphics Card, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the dedicated graphics drivers.

If using a dual Nvidia / Intel GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Install the latest  Intel integrated drivers [www.intel.com]
  2. Reboot your PC
  3. Open Nvidia Control Panel
  4. Click "Manage 3D Settings"
  5. Go to "Program Settings" and then select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking "Add")
  6. Scroll down to "Power Management Mode"
  7. Set it to "Prefer Maximum Performance" / "High Performance Processor" instead of "Adaptive"
  8. Close Nvidia Control Panel and launch the game
If using a dual AMD "Switchable Graphics" GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Under "Switchable Graphics", select the High Performance section and select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking "Browse")
  3. Click "Apply"
  4. Close AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and launch the game
Additionally, double-check your desktop / laptop’s power settings by performing the following:
  1. If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Select "Power Options"
  4. Select "Change Plan Settings"
  5. Select "Change advanced power settings"
  6. From within the dropdown menu, select "High performance" and click "Apply" then "OK"
  7. Launch the game

6. Update DirectX
We recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer [www.microsoft.com] to ensure DirectX is fully up to date.

7. Update your Windows Media Player codecs
Certain cutscene segments use video playback which relies on Windows' default Media Player codec.

If you're experiencing video playback issues during cutscenes, please try installing
Microsoft's Media Feature Pack [support.microsoft.com]. Certain Windows editions, particularly in EU territories and Korea, may not have Windows Media Player and its codec preinstalled.

8. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
Try verifying the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and launch Steam
  2. From the “Library” section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu
  3. Select the “Local files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game files...” button
  4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes
Important: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

This process allows the Steam client to scan every single file you downloaded for this game, verify checksum of each, and compare that against the file manifest data on Steam's content server. If the file is missing or has a different checksum value, you will receive a message stating "X files failed to validate and will be reacquired." What this means is that some files have either been deleted, or may have been corrupted. Click “Close,” and Steam will automatically download and / or replace the problematic files.

9. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please confirm that there are no other applications running at the same time.
"Powerful software like video recording applications can compromise the game's performance and stability by using a lot of CPU, GPU, memory, or I/O bandwidth.
If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing."

10. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, delete your shader cache files.
As some graphical issues may be caused by damaged shader cache files, you may want to try deleting these files by performing the following:

- For AMD GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Go to “Global Gaming Experience” under “Gaming” and perform “Reset Shader Cache”
  3. Press the Windows key and launch Disk Cleanup
  4. Select your C drive and proceed to “OK” with the "DirectX Shader Cache" checkbox ticked to delete the files
  5. Delete “shader.cache” and “shader.cache2” located in the installation folder containing MonsterHunterWildsBeta.exe
- For NVIDIA GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Go to “Global Settings” under “Manage 3D Settings” and disable “Shader Cache Size”

11. If you are experiencing crashes caused by insufficient VRAM while performing shader warming, please contact Intel Corporation or the PC vendor.
As your CPU may be damaged in this scenario, we recommend contacting Intel Corporation or your PC vendor.

12. If Frame Generation option is grayed out and cannot be enabled, try the following:
For Windows 10, turn on “GPU scheduling” on your Window system from “Graphics settings” under “Display” in “System” settings.
If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend updating your driver to the latest version.

13. If you experience input delay or performance degradation when using frame generation, please try the following.
In the "Options" menu, select "Display" and set the vertical synchronization to "Disable."

I've been getting a lot of "fake" crashes recently, which are kinda frustrating. When I change areas, I will sometimes get the crash report tool popping up... and then the game will continue to load, and be fully playable in the background, but the crash tool forces itself to cover much of the screen. When I then CLOSE the crash tool, it force quits the game.

Is there any way to disable the crash report tool itself? As this seems to be the cause of my problem. The game ISN'T crashing, the tool just thinks it is, and then force quits the game on me.

Maybe the game is indeed crashing but it recovers just in time. Sending in the crash report will provide the logs to the devs so they can see what is triggering it.

I am having a more recent issue (just started happening this afternoon) where when I preview the armor during crafting, the beta armor is previewing as the alpha armor.

The issue is not low FPS. The issue is near instantaneous crashes to desktop when I play on my Windows install, even with all settings at their lowest values.

I get 70-80 FPS on 4k on ultra on my Linux install. Something's just horribly screwed with AMD's drivers on windows for this game is all I can guess.

This is then a YOU issue as the game was not really designed for Linux.

Platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, GeForce Now, Microsoft Windows

Additionally, even on the store-page there is nothing saying it supports Linux as Windows 64-bit is labeled as REQUIRED.

If you are running a VWM through Linux, then you are making a mistake and if you haven't properly configured your system for this game then I cannot help you further myself.

There is also 0 Linux support from the devs for your issue it seems.
Are you even capable of reading? Linux is the only thing that works for me. The game does not work, at all, on Windows. I had to swap to Linux to get it to run.

I swear, some people just want to be mad for no reason.
One issue that i have ran into that wasnt reported as a known bug is that when travelling to the wildspire waste between zones 16 and 13 the map got covered in the oil slick waste high. this even lasted when at the pop up tent in that area.

Also there is massive texture pop in everywhere. but particularity when talking to the etymologist in wildspire waste and at the forge in the oilwell basin

FYI: Graphics card being run is a RX9070XT, i have 32GB of ram and the game is saved on a M.2 Drive.

always crash unexpectedly sometimes it's running fine for 1-2 hunts, sometimes it crashes during hunt, and even sometimes crashes while idle in the base camp.
I have tried updating graphics driver, cpu driver, even reinstall my OS, but the crash still happen.

AMD Ryzen 7 5700x3d
RTX 3080
RAM 32GB
Windows 11

Even at the lowest setting it's still crash, well I guess it's not related to game settings, but there are some bugs you need to fix Capcom.

ps : new game update 1.00.05 something also still having crashes.
Maybe instead of giving the most basic troubleshooting steps imaginable that can be found for literally any reason on any ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ website, you optimize your game you lazy ♥♥♥♥♥. It's kinda pathetic you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ have the audacity to charge over $70 (because tax exists for some reason) for a game that has to be restarted every 15 minutes because of polygons stretching themselves to the ends of the map. Even more pathetic you ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ RELY ON FRAME GEN. How absolutely pathetic to RELY on frame gen to get above 60fps, you clowns can't optimize the basics to get non dog ass frame rates without using dog ass software solutions. Be better, this is pathetic. Integrating 'AI' into games has to be the worst thing these lazy wastes of skin have done. Using 'AI' to reach 60fps because the developers suck at their jobs.

I'd believe all that except reinstalling your OS. You really thought reinstalling windows would fix problems in a game? Reinstalling windows barely fixes windows problems, let alone game problems.
my controller keeps disconnecting and reconnecting randomly. it doesnt do it with other games and it does it with multiple different controllers
After the last update my screen goes completely black, almost as if it was turned off for 1 second due to a quest, I have an i5 10400 and an rtx 3060 ti, dlss on high quality and graphics. Since the game came out this has never happened to me. Has it happened to anyone else?
Been having Crashes on The Late game level with specific quests, luckily optional, but it will crash then run the music in the background while the Crash tool is running.
Its very odd that it will only crash on this area and with these enemies both guardian variants
RX 3600
32 GB of ram
5700 XT THICC
Have FSR on to reduce GPU load
is it normal for my game to be running on 50-55fps regardless of settings
high on everything including ray tracing compared to low and off on everything and i still dont see and increase in fps
only time my game runs above that is in the arena
got an exelent 90+ in benchmark with the higher settings :aushrug:
Hey uhhh... for the Arkveld Lance, you guys at Capcom have its appearance mixed up with the G Arkveld lance. For whatever reason, the Arkveld Lance has the glow while the G Arkveld Lance has none. Since we dont have layered weapons yet could this please be fixed? Thank you!
Also while we're at it, now that we can see the Arkvulcan set, it seems the chain-scales that hang off the belt for the G Arkveld is not centered, unlike the Arkvulcan set which has the same belt but IS centered. It really looks like a bug, and not intentional.
anyone on here saying you cant connect to network i watched a yt video on how to get frame gen for my old graphics card after about 2 days of running smooth as butter i opened one too many apps and my game crashed as soon as i booted up the game i started crashing and my pc kept resetting itself after that i deleted the game re downloaded it and still nothing did that 5 more times just to find out from steam support that im banned from MH wilds for literally nothing but modding frame gen into my game and apparently Denuvo doesn't like when you redownload your own game too many times because it thinks your pirating it which makes no sense cause i only have one pc
