Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test Troubleshooting & Issue Reporting Thread
We hope you’re all enjoying or will be enjoying Monster Hunter Wilds Beta test while we hope all of our fans will have a great time with the game, there will always be some cases here and there where the game may not function correctly under certain environments and / or hardware combinations.

We’ve set up this troubleshooting and feedback thread for you all to share any technical issues you may be having with the game.

Before providing any reports, please ensure you've followed the steps below to rule out problems with your PC, Steam, or the game’s files:

Troubleshooting Guide

1. Check the game’s system requirements
Please make sure you meet the minimum requirements for the game, outlined on the bottom of the Steam Store page ; if you do not meet the minimum requirements for the game, this may result in poor framerate, or the game not running.

If you do meet the minimum specifications but not the recommended specifications, you may want to try turning down the graphics settings, if you haven't already. Please note that most graphical settings changes require the game to be restarted in order for the changes to take effect.

If you’re using a multi-GPU setup such as NVIDIA’s SLI or AMD’s Crossfire technologies, we recommend experimenting with disabling these settings, as they may cause compatibility issues with the game.

Capcom does not warrant nor officially provide technical support for PCs that do not meet the official, minimum system requirements, as well as guarantee normal game operations with mobile GPUs, external GPUs, and pre-release builds of Windows OS provided via Windows Insider Program.

2. Add the game’s folder and files to your anti-virus program’s exception / exclusion list
Some launching issues may be attributed to certain Anti-Virus software preventing the game executable from launching due to a false-positive error. We recommend users add all of the following files and folders to the Anti-Virus and Firewall exclusion list to prevent this issue. If these files and folders were already added previously, try removing them from the exclusion list and re-adding them.

Note: To quickly access the following folders, press Windows Key + R then copy and paste the folder URL below.

  • MonsterHunterWildsBeta.exe Default Location:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\MonsterHunterWildsBetatest
  • Steam.exe Default Location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam
  • Steam AppData Default Location: C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Steam

For a guide on adding exceptions to your anti-virus software, please visit one of the following links:
*For Bitdefender, you will need to also add the game’s .exe file to the program’s Whitelist. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Open Bitdefender
  2. Go to the Protection tab
  3. Click “View Feature”
  4. Click the gear icon inside the “Advanced Thread Defense” box
  5. Select “Add applications to the whitelist”
  6. Browse and navigate to the .exe file
  7. Once the .exe file is added, close Bitdefender and relaunch the game

3. Give administrator privileges to Steam and the game
Some users can get the game running properly by running Steam.exe in administrator mode. This can be done by right-clicking on the .exe file and selecting “Run as administrator.” If that doesn’t work, try running the game’s .exe file in administrator mode as well.

4. Update your Video/Graphics Drivers and Windows Operating System
Try updating your video card drivers, as oftentimes outdated drivers can cause a variety of issues ranging anywhere from in-game graphical problems, to the game not starting, and more.
  • For the latest Nvidia drivers, click here [www.nvidia.com]
  • For the latest AMD drivers, click here [www.amd.com]

Additionally, please ensure that Windows Update has been run and that all the latest updates have been installed on your operating system.

If you still experience issues, you may want to try performing a clean installation of the video driver set. This will remove any extraneous driver DLL files or game profiles that existed with the previous driver installation.

To do a clean video driver install, many enthusiasts use a third-party program called Display Driver Uninstaller [www.guru3d.com] (DDU), which completely removes components that were part of the original driver installation package.
  1. Run DDU and uninstall old video driver
  2. Install the latest OEM video card driver and reboot your PC
  3. Run the latest DirectX installer package[www.microsoft.com]] and reboot your PC
IMPORTANT! Please don't forget to reboot Windows upon completing a video driver installation. This will help reinitialize the driver and the graphics card using the new driver.

5. Check your graphics driver settings & computer power settings
To reiterate, some high end integrated graphics chips and modern laptop class discrete GPUs may work, but have not been tested, nor are they officially supported by Capcom. Laptops with dual GPUs, such as an Intel Integrated Graphics Processor + Nvidia Dedicated Graphics Card, may need additional configuration in the event the integrated processor is overriding the dedicated graphics drivers.

If using a dual Nvidia / Intel GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Install the latest  Intel integrated drivers [www.intel.com]
  2. Reboot your PC
  3. Open Nvidia Control Panel
  4. Click "Manage 3D Settings"
  5. Go to "Program Settings" and then select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking "Add")
  6. Scroll down to "Power Management Mode"
  7. Set it to "Prefer Maximum Performance" / "High Performance Processor" instead of "Adaptive"
  8. Close Nvidia Control Panel and launch the game
If using a dual AMD "Switchable Graphics" GPU, follow these steps:
  1. Open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Under "Switchable Graphics", select the High Performance section and select the game (if it is not in the list you can add it manually by clicking "Browse")
  3. Click "Apply"
  4. Close AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and launch the game
Additionally, double-check your desktop / laptop’s power settings by performing the following:
  1. If using a laptop, ensure the charger is connected
  2. Open Control Panel
  3. Select "Power Options"
  4. Select "Change Plan Settings"
  5. Select "Change advanced power settings"
  6. From within the dropdown menu, select "High performance" and click "Apply" then "OK"
  7. Launch the game

6. Update DirectX
We recommend downloading and running the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer [www.microsoft.com] to ensure DirectX is fully up to date.

7. Update your Windows Media Player codecs
Certain cutscene segments use video playback which relies on Windows' default Media Player codec.

If you're experiencing video playback issues during cutscenes, please try installing
Microsoft's Media Feature Pack [support.microsoft.com]. Certain Windows editions, particularly in EU territories and Korea, may not have Windows Media Player and its codec preinstalled.

8. Verify the game’s cache in Steam
Try verifying the game's cache in Steam. You can do so by following the steps outlined in this Steam support article (reposted below). This may find missing or damaged files that need to be repaired, even if you've just installed the game. You may also try temporarily disabling your anti-virus while verifying the cache or launching the game, as on occasion anti-virus programs may flag games or the files necessary to play them as a virus.

To verify the game’s cache, follow these steps:
  1. Restart your computer and launch Steam
  2. From the “Library” section, right-click on the game and select “Properties” from the menu
  3. Select the “Local files” tab and click the “Verify integrity of game files...” button
  4. Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes
Important: One or more files may fail to verify. This is normal for most Steam games. The files that fail to verify are local configuration files that should not be replaced as part of this process. You can safely ignore this message.

This process allows the Steam client to scan every single file you downloaded for this game, verify checksum of each, and compare that against the file manifest data on Steam's content server. If the file is missing or has a different checksum value, you will receive a message stating "X files failed to validate and will be reacquired." What this means is that some files have either been deleted, or may have been corrupted. Click “Close,” and Steam will automatically download and / or replace the problematic files.

9. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, please confirm that there are no other applications running at the same time.
"Powerful software like video recording applications can compromise the game's performance and stability by using a lot of CPU, GPU, memory, or I/O bandwidth.
If the game is suffering from performance issues, please close as many applications as possible while playing."

10. If you are experiencing issues with game stability, delete your shader cache files.
As some graphical issues may be caused by damaged shader cache files, you may want to try deleting these files by performing the following:

- For AMD GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition
  2. Go to “Global Gaming Experience” under “Gaming” and perform “Reset Shader Cache”
  3. Press the Windows key and launch Disk Cleanup
  4. Select your C drive and proceed to “OK” with the "DirectX Shader Cache" checkbox ticked to delete the files
  5. Delete “shader.cache” and “shader.cache2” located in the installation folder containing MonsterHunterWildsBeta.exe
- For NVIDIA GPUs
  1. Right click on your desktop and open NVIDIA Control Panel
  2. Go to “Global Settings” under “Manage 3D Settings” and disable “Shader Cache Size”

11. If you are experiencing crashes caused by insufficient VRAM while performing shader warming, please contact Intel Corporation or the PC vendor.
As your CPU may be damaged in this scenario, we recommend contacting Intel Corporation or your PC vendor.

12. If Frame Generation option is grayed out and cannot be enabled, try the following:
For Windows 10, turn on “GPU scheduling” on your Window system from “Graphics settings” under “Display” in “System” settings.
If this does not resolve the issue, we recommend updating your driver to the latest version.

13. If you experience input delay or performance degradation when using frame generation, please try the following.
In the "Options" menu, select "Display" and set the vertical synchronization to "Disable."

These directions are quite complex for a casual gamer...can Capcom resolve the resolution and performance issues??? Maybe using an auto detect feature for the performance or frame rate, preferred by the user?

Like, get all of the user data...and FIX IT.

I'm not able to invest in a top of the line PC for your game, and I want to love this game.

Please test on a decade old PC (top of the line, at the time in 2014).

Then you will know.

:steamsad:

Unfortunately, its not so simple. There are millions of combinations of possible hardware configurations. They have obviously tested on minimum and recommended level harware to ensure the game runs to some level of performance they have set. That doesn't mean that some other combination of hardware of that vintage will have the same results.

The more troubling thing for me is the failure to launch crash problem. I am above spec across the board, but it still won't even load the client on my machine :(

By the way, the NVIDIA cards available in 2014 were GeForce GTX 700 -900 series... so far below minimum spec that the video card will just giggle at you when you try to run this game.

Monster Hunter Wilds Newbie with his old computer
CPU: i7 7700k
RAM: 32Gb
GPU: GTX 1080TI
Monitor: LG TVOLED 65' 65B8PTA

Game Setting: Medium High 4K
Framerate: 25-35FPS

Game Setting: Custom 4K
Framerate: 25-30FPS

Game Setting: Medium High 1080P
Framerate: 35-40FPS

The demo that was released is quite demanding and has high settings.
Setting Medium High is almost no different for old computers.
The Upscaling setting causes the screen to go black.
Setting other details such as the sky, grass, trees, and shadows, when displayed on an OLED TV, there is no difference. The difference that clearly affects the beauty of the character is the Display Resolution. Adjust 4K, the sharpness of the image is beautiful as usual, but when reducing to 1080P, the image is broken. And in some moments, the movement of the image is slightly angular along the edges of the characters, but overall, the image is blurry and unclear. The frame rate is not pushed up much from the original. Therefore, I decided to play in 4K mode, which is better for the eyes because the image is clearer.

For some reason, the game runs as it should only when my game window is not being focused on. If I click off the game the fps goes to 100+, and if I click back in the fps drops to 25.

Nearly exact Same for me.
Already tried to lower all grafic sections in the settings but everything i did was useless...
I'm kinda surprised cause i already played it on Playstation5 with none of any mentioned problems.
Hope someone could tell me what to do(?)
The moment "Quest Beings" appears the Audio distorts. It sounds like it's going into Stereo mode.

I use sony headphones wh-1000xm4. I also have disabled the stereo mode that is on by default.

Edit

I've narrowed down the issue. I turned off voice chat and it fixed the issue but when voice chat is on it goes back into stereo mode.

Hey, so my bf has a weird bug in Wilds where all the character voice overs sound like echoes in the cave (like, only reverb and no primary audio source). I can't find any bug reports online like this - has anyone experienced it or have any ideas why?
I have an issue where everything in the game would not load in. The collision is still there, but not any of the models. Updating the drivers and reinstalling the game files did not help with any of it. Also I don’t think anything else will work. Plus I am no way in hell giving this game and steam admin privileges on my computer. That is genuinely ridiculous for any company to ask the consumer.

Hi :)

I have an issue where the Balahara shows as Black Squares whenever they appear in 3d space. It seems to coincide with the 3d meshes all being jagged.
I think this issue is graphics card-related; I'm using the Intel Arc A770.
I'm running at 720p (No Upscaling or Frame Generation) and Mostly High settings (Motion Blur, Vignette, Screen Space Reflection, SSSS Scattering, and Depth of field are off).

Specs:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D
RAM: 16GB
GPU: Intel Arc A770 8GB VRAM

Hope this helps solve the issue for the full release :)
friend crashed multiple times while playing together and after that there was no way he could rejoin my enviroment link while the ongoing hunt which was extremly annoying and even after we kinda managed to get him in with the help of an SOS flare he was in the same enviroment as me but we couldnt see each other but all the enviroment was in sync.

So a better rejoin option or allowing people on the friendlist to join enviroment links mid hunt would be great
