charge blade or no?
is it slow or repetitive, I previously used the IG but its rework is kinda cheeks so I'm gonna pass on it for this title

CB is the weapon I'm least comfortable with, there was some issues in the beta for me with inputs, specifically on the charge slash. But I'm 90% sure that was my <20 FPS and not an issue with the weapon itself. It overall felt pretty good, felt a lot better with Focus Mode, but mostly the same as World's CB. So if you like it there you should like it here.

As I said, it's my least comfy weapon, so I'm sure a CB main can describe it in Wilds a bit better.

p.s. The Wilds IG is peak IG and one of the best weapon updates.

I tried it out for a while and I just couldn't get used to it, I'll probably try more of it on release but I've got a feeling I'm not gonna like it.

Don't want to derail your CB Thread, but it's really worth giving some attention to. It took me two hunts to get comfortable with the changes and even then I still fumbled inputs. I kept Focus Mode toggled on through the settings and it made all the weapons feel way better than without.

CB is the weapon I main. I played the beta on the PS5 and I can say the controls were familiar but having savage axe locked to focus wounds will take a little to get used to. Overall it's good weapon for damage and great for survival. The swing speed I would say is mid tier from just visual compare to other weapons but when you play it right it feels good and not repetitive, in as much as every other weapon in the game.

How often do you find yourself using the sword & shield form of the weapon? When I tried it, it seemed like you had to continuously attack with the sword & shield to charge the blade, then you would swap the form and actually deal proper damage, sort of making the sword & shield form kind of useless/a chore, but maybe I was using the forms wrong

Savage Axe is **not** locked to wounds. You can axess (get it?) it through wounds, yes, but also perfect guards/guard points, and mounts.

Sword and shield is your basic mode and used to charge all your power. Landing normal attacks gives charges to your phials. Once you charge 5 you need to stockpile the energy, which turns the phials red in color. If you don't stockpile and just keep attacking, your attacks will start to bounce because you cannot absorb any more energy. Your sword will also light the brush on fire causing burn damage to the monsters and yourself if you're in it. You can then go to axe mode and release the energy or, with the changes in Wilds exclusively, build an extra 5 phial charges and stockpile it a 2nd time.

With your phials charged you can either go axe mode and chop away or you can convert the phials into shield energy. This will let you block much stronger attacks and allow a perfect guard counter to instantly unlock savage axe mode. You can also once in the charged shield state charge your sword. With a charged sword every swing will do basic damage and also amped damage. In this amped sword and shield mode you'll be doing a lot of damage and maintain solid mobility and defense as well. You also can build your 5 phials and keep attacking to build wound points. Then once you have a solid opening to really do damage go into axe (or savage axe mode through a perfect block counter or focus mode wounds) and release all the energy with powerful axe swings that do damage multiple times as the weapon passes through the body

Yes, but I was at the time giving a more simple answer. SA can be unlocked with a perfect block counter, which may be harder to execute depending on skill and also might not be wanted depending on the moment of the fight
CB is way slower so.

Also dont let that guy gaslight you into thinking GP turns on Savage Axe. It does not.

I never said guard points do, I said perfect guard/guard points. I wasn't able to pull it off with CB but I was able to pull off a Perfect Guard Point with the Quick Reload on Gunlance, so I assume CB can do the same. No reason to think otherwise. Now if you can trigger Savage Axe from this or not is also an assumption. I know a Perfect Guard can do it, so no reason to assume a Perfect Guard Point cannot. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong.
Late to the show, but a master at the charge blade and Insect Glaive.

1. Charge blade is the most unnecessary weapon of all time. Many will spend 5 minutes of their Arch Temper fight just buffing up all aspects of the weapon (sword, shield, saw) then lose it all in 30 seconds. I would hate to see AT gore magulla with a charge blade.

2. In wilds, the charge blade is a hammer. It will KO a monster in 2 impact phials (sometimes 4). After this, it will take a significant amount of hits (overcharged impact phials) than a hammer for the 2 and 3rd KO.

3. Sword mode - in wilds - is nothing but a tool to charge the weapon and a block.

4. Use Loaded Shells (aka Magazine) to get straight into hammer mode more quickly.

5. Stay calm when blocking, the wrong button press and you are in for a long animation in axe mode. LOL

6. Holding down the strong attack for the double sword slash is still unresponsive after certain combos and flinches. (same in World)

7. Charge blade is an ego weapon at best. The time spent dancing around to prepare the weapon could be more hits with a weapon that is a Grab-n-go!

8. AT monsters will not engage with you when you are not attacking or charging up with a winding up animation. Their logic is coded to attack you when you are vulnerable.

9. If you prefer to stay in Sword Mode for those insanely fast Monster rage, equip Mind’s Eye to remove the overheated state of the sword.

10. In wilds, Elemental Phials are useless and pretty to look at. Impact phials will out damage element phials by a whopping 80. If you are clever you can dish out 100 per phial (500 damage) every 4 to 5 seconds.

11. Again, charge blade is an ego weapon. SNS has every weapon type and does everything the charge blade can, but in fractions of a second.

Yea, seconded as a CB main. SnS is definitely more safer version of CB for AT.
