Starting without DLC?
I recently bought the Ultimate Edition, and upon starting the game I've found myself totally bombarded by all kinds of weapons and quests. I was hoping the weapons would be simply inserted into the game as drops and the quests would come gradually, but alas...

So I went to disable the DLC at the splash screen by disabling them in the "Data Files" menu... turns out they were already unchecked! I tried checking them and then unchecking them again, and they're all still enabled. Then I tried using the Nexus manager to disable them, and they're listed as disabled in there as well.

Does anybody know what else to do? I guess I could remove them manually from the data folder for now, but I'm a bit hesitant to do that.

I can avoid the quests, but what about all the guns? They're still sitting in there weighing me down all the while being very tempting to use...

If you really wanted you can just drop them in a corner somewhere.. I found them extremely useful til i ran out of ammo, i dont have any of them now however the nade rifle is nice.

Sell the extra guns to a merchant problem solved they are from the Courier Stash which was four dirrent sets of armor weapons and supplies that you got depending on where you pre-ordered or purchased the game for the first month or so.They simply give you all of them with that DLC so you get bombarded with messages at the start of the game.

Dropping them is a waste when you can make some caps by selling the ones that you do not want.

I think that there is a mod on the Nexus some place that disables the ESMs of the UE that you do not want other wise they are sort of hard coded into the game.I cant say for sure though I have the orginal version with all the DLC purchased seprately except Courier stash which never interested me.

The quest DLCs simply let you know that they are there and where to go you must activate them to be lead to the starting point or go to the location on the map to start them and it will be very clear when you do they make ceratin that you wish to beagin the DLC quests Dead Money,Honest Hearts,Old World Blues and Lonsome Road.

The reason they show up at the same time when you begin a new game is because they also each add 5 points to the level cap and perks you can aquire which are part of the enitre game not just that given DLC.These thigns are useful for the game even if you do not want to play the DLC right away.

If you need help managing the many quests you can always go to the Fallout Wiki New Veags page and jot down the names of all of the quests so you know which ones drive the main story all though in most cases it is fairly obvious what quest are story and which are side. And the mian quest has several diffrent branches and endings.

The thing is that the items give me a weird, inbalanced advantage from the get go - either I keep guns that are overpowered for my level, or I have way more money than I should at the start of the game. I would prefer to start the game out like it was meant to be (and be challenged), work my way up, and then be able to get the weapons sometime in the future when they feel more appropriate. It also just doesn't make sense that after some gangsters shot me and left me for dead they would just leave me with a grenade launcher and all that. Bleh.

The stuff about the quests makes sense though, I guess I can live with that. Do you know if there's maybe a place I can stash the weapons and get to them later?

Just sell the guns then no one is forcing you to use them you just get to choose what you want or do not want.If you want none and no money advanatge then just drop them by right clicking on the in the pipboy.

They must meant for you to start with one stash at least becuase you alway got one of the 4 dependng on where you bought the game so choosing just one is not really making the game imbalanced.

I have only the Vault 13 stash and it seems fairly balanced to me.

You putting far too much thought into this either sell them or drop them all if you want more challange.Dont use any weapons only fists you can do that if you want to none is stopping you just drop or sell things tht you do not want but selling is smarter becuase you can use the coin to buy something you do want or need.

I'm not putting too much thought into it, I just take the gameplay seriously. Judging by past complaints, I'm not the only one either. And I don't want to just dump the stuff permanently either - I did pay for it, so I want to be able to use it eventually. I'm asking if there's a place at the beginning of the game where I can stash it.

Or better yet, keep in mind I would still like an actual fix to the issue rather than in-game workarounds.

Just leave the stuff in Docs house then he will never take anything.I like to play the game as I wish gameplay is time away from working for me so the word seroius and game play seems crazy to me.I spend all my working hours being serious.

I know what you mean, I found it would have made the game a bit unbalanced but I didn't want to get rid of all the stuff either. I used Victor's shack as early housing and dumped all the stuff there (Safe storage)

The dlcs are pointless anyway.

sell the guns or put them in a cabinet , drop them , you only carry what you want , you can runaround naked if you want ,granted some of the quests will be a little difficult

If only Steam had DLC management rather than the DLC always being downloaded with your game.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that asking a question meant I needed my hand held. Do you have to be a jerk, or do you know how to mind your own business unless you want to be helpful?

No reason to be helpful when the help needed is not really very hard to figure out on your own
how hard is it to simply not carry what you dont want or place it some place for later use if you to use it.Which by your own words is a contradction becuase you feel that the iteams unbalance the game so if they do why keep them.

I like that the game adds all the items at once and annoys lazy people I think thats awsome.
