Why can I not just join the fiends/raiders?
Haven't played Fallout3 very much, but played through Fallout NV countless times now. I can't say I like any of the factions you side yourselves with. However for some reason I like the fiends. I think its cause they are the Mad Max style steriotype of post apocylaptic culture. Yet you never can join them or make friends with them, they don't even seem to count as a faction. They are pretty much the largest group in the wasteland and still so under rated, why?

The Fiends are a very minor faction in the game, only encountered (and subsequently butchered by NCR troopers) in the area around Vault 3.

You're not confusing the Fiends with some other faction, are you?

edit: "fiends/raiders", ah. Well, there's quite a lot of content for the Great Khans, which is one of the larger raider gangs.

The rest (Vipers, Jackals, Scorpions, Greasers) are so minor, you only encounter some of them in a single location in the game. They could've had a bigger role in the game, but Fallout was never about the "Mad Max style steretype of post-apocalyptic culture".

+ You never really join any of the factions in the game. You're always the independent, the "freelancer", the guy (or girl) that gets the dirty jobs BECAUSE you're not affiliated.

Thanks for the info. I guess I do kinda group the Jackles and other gangs in with the fiends because of the similar armor sets (raider armor). And I get that fallout is not focused on Mad Max style stuff, but I do like the diversity. Also not saying there is anything wrong with the fallout series and their choices of style and gameplay. I would just like to see a group like the fiends developed more and maybe considered a faction with reputation, instead of a group that attacks the player on sight.
+ The great kahns do not count to me as being the same.
its hard to say why, they just feel vastly different.

There are only a few factions you can "join" those are: The Brotherhood of Steel, the White Glove Society (technically they dont do much), and the Kings. If I am forgetting anything or you disagree with what I have said please let me know.

Nope, you just get less death threats from the members. Some stuff every few days, too, but mostly less threats.
