Why isn't the Ripper any good?

Is it just me or does this weapon kinda suck now? In Fallout 3 it was awesome and the dps was ridiculous. Now, I don't even think it's worth carrying.

What's everyone's preferred melee weapon? Mine is Super Sledge right now

I own the Ripper, then I bought the carbide teeth upgrade (gun runners arsenal dlc).
But when I try to Mod my Ripper to install the carbide teeth, there is no carbide teeth selection on my mod menu. So how do you get the carbide teeth on to the ripper then..?

Gun Runner mods only work with Gun Runner weapons. You need to get the GRA version of the Ripper if you want to mod it.
