Grew bored of Fallout 3 after a few hours, is this better?
I like bethesda games. The combat in FO3 felt a little off though. The VATS-system was fine, but normal shooting felt really weird. After a few hours, I just grew bored of running through boring sewers and doing boring quests.

Is New Vegas any better? I've heard some good things about the quests, but I wonder if the full package is much better than FO3. I completed skyrim and oblivion and morrowind, but FO3 was the first game I quit because it was so boring :(

New Vegas has Iron Sights, so the combat does feel more natural compared to FO3. That one little thing def improves the feel.

Ehh, if you didnt like FO3 then this might not be the game for you.

A FPS mod could fix the clunky feel. The game is obviously an RPG

I like RPG's. As I said in the OP... I completed Skyrim, Morrowind and Oblivion. I'm a huge RPG fan, it's probably my favourite genre. The Witcher 2, original Dragon Age etc

Yet, Fallout 3 just didn't cllick with me. It was mainly the story and the quests, but the combat was part of it. I don't want a FPS combat-system but the system is FO3 felt clunky at times because VATS was pretty cool, but changing to the regular shooting was a bit meh

I've found myself using VATS less in NV because if the iron sights. VATS is still great, of course.

Maybe the iron sights will be enough to make the combat more appealing for you.

Yeah, the iron sights actually sound like a good addition.

I just hope the quests and overall story are of a better level too. I know this game is made by obsidian and, personally, I think they're better than bethesda at creating an interesting story. (Although it depends on the game)

It probably is a matter of genre. Maybe you like medieval fantasy RPG's more than sci-fi ones?

With me it's the other way around, so I very rarely play a medieval fantasy game and they usually are Action-adventure games.

I actually really like sci-fi and space RPG's, a good example of this would be Knights of the Old Republic. I don't really see Fallout as sci-fi either, I just feel like there is a difference :P

But I think I'll give New Vegas a chance with the ultimate edition. It really is too cheap to ignore.

Well then it's just a matter of how much spare time you have to complete the game.

Combat does indeed feel much better

This game feels more alive to me, more and better characters, a bit more colour, more ways to end the game. I enjoy it much more than FO3
If you enjoy Fallout 2, Tactics, or the original. You'll probably love New Vegas.
New Vegas - unlike FO3, continues where you left off. Not really where you left off, but you got the NCR and all the factions, instead of how the FO3 storyline was (which was kind of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ too)
It's a fun game compared to FO3.

Storyline and characters are much better in NV and you got iron sights with different ammo types. Armor piercing, hollow points, ect ect.

Post apocalyptic anything is my favorite thing, and thats almost a standard rule for me, so I might be a little biased. Fallout New Vegas is my personal favorite video game of all time. I have beaten it 12 times, and for unlucky 13, i racked all the handguns I could think of (handguns alone was 29, pretty sure FO3 had 29 energy weapons or less >.<) and i drew numbers 1-29 until one gun was drawn five times. That would be the gun I used for that game. I drew the flare gun, arguably the worst gun in the game, and i'm still having a blast
Since my only weapon was the worst in the game, I was faced with a conflict. If I almost died taking on a herd of bighorners with my glorified candlestick, maybe taking on all the steel rangers, guys with the toughest armor and the fondest love for technology was a bad idea. So I decided to stratergize. I'd have to get in and get out almost as fast as humanly (and partially inhumanly) possible, so I picked up 5 doses of turbo (super speedy drug), realizing that the brotherhood uses energy weapons and turbo is highly addictive, I picked up a fixer (temporary addiction removal), and atomic cocktail (energy + fire damage resist) as well. I bolted into the BoS bunker, and within 10 seconds of me breeching the bunker, I'd turned their entire turret network against them. within a minute, I had the place under self destruct and about a minute and thirty seconds later, I'd killed probably the toughest group of human soldiers there are, without even pulling a single trigger.
Thats another thing I love about Fallout New Vegas, although your story may seem to repeat, the gameplay has never gotten old for me. There are so many different things you can do in this game, and eventually, you could care less about what ending you get or the battle for hoover dam, and you play it in different circumstances. One time, I decided to be Mary Sue, so I gave myself 10,000 caps, maxed my special and my skills, cranked the difficulty up to max, and went for a one life completion, (Needless to say, I didn't get the one life completion, but I had a heck of a time trying XD) Either way, this game has so much more sandbox potential than FO3, heck, I'd argue it beats GTA 4 even.
There aren't many games where you are given an entire wasteland and told "You see this land? This land may have been torn to shreds by war, death and nuclear devastation, but this is your land. You are going to have a heck of a time defending your land. You aren't letting some 300 year old guy, a two headed bear, and the roman empire take it from you.

I like the VATS system with my melee build. It makes for some cinematic kills. I loved the atmosphere of FO3 more than NV but all the improvements of NV would be sorely missed.

It's pretty much the same. Irons sights will help with you hating normal aiming. Quest don't really get that interesting until you reach Vegas or play the DLC. Which that's hours and hours into the game either way unless you skip the whole starting portion of the game which is difficult.
