Leveling too slowly?
I think I might be leveling too slowly. Let me tell you my situation.

I just finished the quest "My Kind of Town" which is a side quest where you find the city, Primm, a new sheriff and you need to get a pardon from the NCR to allow Meyer to be the sheriff again.

When I finished that quest, I reached level 3. I was then told to go to Novac through Nipton.

I find a lot of hard monsters to kill on the way and I die a lottttttt.

If anyone can tell me if I'm doing something wrong, that'd be awesome.

Go talk to the people at the Mojave Outpost, they have a few quest that will bump you up a level or two. Also check the vendors for weapon mods. I generally start the game off with a fully modded laser pistol and it works really well in the early game.

Alright, thanks for the tips. I'm using the Varmit Rifle 95% of the time right now, and I figured something is wrong.

So should I get the XP perk? Or does it ruin leveling completely?

No. No leveling perks are needed, good sir.

In fact, the leveling perks are absolutely terrible. There are always better choices. when it comes to using your limited perk slots.
I also agree with the others :), don't get any levelling perks, i am on a new playthrough with all DLC, i just hit 50 and have not even spoken to Benny yet, there are tonnes of good little spots around Goodsprings/Primm and Novac to get you up a bit, i think you may have just taken a side road on your way to Novac and hit a little bit higher lvl mobs. Stick to the roads for for the first few hours of the game and then you shoul start to explore after you have put some points into skills and gotten some weapons to repair and keep in good condition. I used the varmint rifle till about lvl 20 and loved it. Good luck man and enjoy :)
Alright thanks everyone for their help! Now back to enjoying this great game!
I die a lot in the early game too, that's the fun of it...trying not to die.

Of course you can use console commands to give yourself awesome weapons and armour.

Another option is using more stealth, using terrain effectively, using VATS to scout ahead of you and get ED-E fixed as quickly as possible.

I just did a playthrough recently and thought it had become insanely difficult in the early game too. Without giving away any spoilers, I can say that shooting first and asking questions later is only a viable option when you get tougher.

Not only are leveling perks terrible, I actually sometimes wish I could have the opposite.

I take the Skilled trait (carries an XP penalty) and I still level up fast.

It's an early game problem exclusively. Once you get past the rough beginning, you'll level up very easily.

Does anyone know if you can continue the game after you reach max level? What if you finish all the DLC? I know you can't play after completing the main quest line but what if you finish everything else?
Softly 2. Juli 2013 um 17:03
you can continue to keep playing after both. With all DLC, max level is 50 and once you hit that, you just stop getting XP. With the DLC, they all end with you back at where you started in the Mojave.

Alright, thanks bud!
you should go the the mojave outpost owned by the ncr and do some quest and just do some more quest nearby would help also when you go through that area have a service rifle it really helps

Yea. I'm level 8 right now and I'm in the REPPCON test site or something. It's the rocket base near Novac.

That's about where I usually end up when I hit that area. This time through I skipped it entirely, but I'm probably going to go back so I can get some kills with my modded W. 10mm Pistol for the one-handed Gun challenges. :D
