Is there a cheaper way to repair equipment without having to pay 10K+ caps?
There are many items in-game that cost more caps than you'd make in all of your endeavors in the wasteland to repair to 100%. For instance, I recall before that something cost over 25K caps just to repair fully, when the price of it wasn't even that much. There are items which are unique and cannot be found elsewhere to repair with, which makes it extremely difficult to find a way to repair them. Weapon repair kits are good and all; godsends really... but when it comes to expensive armor, they don't do me any good.

I do not, and will not resort to the cheats... however, I may resort to mods if it provides a sensible solution and not a cheap fix. I do know about Jury Rigging, but its going to be a while until I get that, and my armor is down to like, 10%. Any help?

Why not repair them your self?

Because I don't have any other gear to repair it with.

- Switch to more practical armour. The unique ones are costly to maintain for a reason.

- Scavenge more, goes well with the above.

- Kill Fiends for easy caps.

- Get Jury Rigging ASAP. Arguably the best perk in the game.

or... Weapon Repair Kits!

Doesn't help with armour, being weapon repair kits and all.

I personally use this[newvegas.nexusmods.com] mod, which turns the WRK's to universal repair kits, able to repair your equipped armour, helmet or weapon.

Just use whatever random armor you can find until you get Jury Rigging. It's available at level 14, you shouldn't need amazing unique armors before that anyway.

I was level 23 when I made the post and was doing the Old World Blues DLC.

I'm 26 now and managed to score Jury Rigging. I managed to find the Stealth Suit and use that; it has good damage resistance and threshold, and the voice keeps me company on my endeavors.

Oh god the stealth suit. It`d be decent armour if not for two very annoying tidbits - Firstly, it`s medium armour and thus slows you down, secondly it auto injects Stims... far earlier than they would be needed and runs through your Med-X like it`s useless. Seriously, it`ll stick you with the stuff for a bloatfly.

Unless you`re actively sneaking, don`t equip it.

I play hardcore/very hard and also resorted to using a mod for repairs. I chose version 2 of weapon and armor repair improved on fnv nexus because it seems the most realistic imho. Limits it to certain items for repairs and makes junk items useful, for example only wrenches can be used to repair certain armors, as well it also adds the ability to repair otherwise unrepairable unique items.
