(Solved)Has anyone actually ever fixed fallout new vegas from crashing when starting a new game?
After relentlessly searching for answers on how to fix FNV it has come to my attention that the problem I have, where the game crashes at the loading screen when you start a new game(or load one), that it appears no one has ever solved this problem, so can anyone tell me if they have, and if you could, thn please tell how you fixed it.

Looks like a pretty common error without a lot of help.

It's a shot in the dark, but try temporarily disabling Norton and running the game with AV completely turned off.
If that fails, my only other suggestion is to see if you can find a copy of d3d9.dll and d3d10.dll in another game's directory and copy that to the root of your new vegas install.

Sorry if I can't be any more help. This stuff can be pretty frustrating I know.
yeah, the norton thing didn't work
last resort is pretty drastic, but it could just be that you need to repair your windows installation. you can either do a full re-format (major PITA) or install windows 7 over your existing copy (still a PITA, but not as big). Before that, it's at least worth trying to see if falling back to a slightly older video card driver can solve the problem. Sometimes latest, greatest can break things.

Best of luck.
The same thing happened to me and I just changed the graphic settings to something else in the start up menu and it loaded just fine
What did you change it to, I've tried the lowest it can go
I put it on high and it worked. My game just wasn't loading though so maybe your problem is different.
Close steam, then right click on the steam.exe launcher and select run as administrator. Then try Fallout. Went from wouldn't launch to zero problems. And I have a few hundred hours in. Only time it ever gave me issues was when my pc overheated.
Tried that, didn't work, they way I fixed it was I downloaded it onto another computer which has an amd radeon 5000 series graphics card in it, so I'm pretty sure It's a problem with Nvidia, they just released new drivers a couplke hours ago, I'll try it on my computer now.

Interesting. I've ♥♥♥♥♥♥ those errors before occasionally with bethesda engine games, but I don't recall any magic bullet fix. I rember using a mod from the nexus site that changed the default direct 3D renderer and this seemed to help some folks at the time, but this fix might be kind of outdated.

It might be worth a shot if you have a nvidia card (there's an ATI fix as well if I'm not mistaken?)
http://newvegas.nexusmods.com/mods/34778

just follow the instructions.

Also it might be worth asking if you are using some kind of anti-virus software that might be interfering with the game running. What AV software do you run? and/or do you run a lot of apps in your notification area (the stuff next to the clock). Try trimming some background apps and do a clean install of your hardware drivers (use ccleaner or driver sweeper to clean the registry after you uninstall the old ones, reboot, then install new versions of your drivers -- chipset, sound card, video card, network card, etc.)

After I fooled around on the other computer for alittle bit, I realised maybe its some sort of Nvidia problem, so then I remebered people saying the .dll file has been pronounced obsolete(some people who mentioned this distonctly stated radeon cards) so I thought perhaps that there is 2 versions(because the one I downloaded was through a link on youtube). I followed the link in this thread and it worked, thank you nikolokolus for your help, it is greatly appreciated.
yeah even with mmue patch this game still crashes all the time
Never crashed for me, ever. Usually, mods or driver conflicts are to blaim. You can never "Fix" this, as the game is compatibile with millions of different PC builds.
had the same problem with 310.90 on my 670 Ti,
the solution from GivenFool9 solved it,
you saved my night, thx
Same exact issue. Crashes on startup, just as steam loads in the bottom right corner and before the Bethesda logo fully appears. One file always remains after validation, and is never fixed no matter how many clean installs I try.

This is what I end up seeing every time:

I am running Win7 with a GeForce GTX 460 and a Soundblaster Audigy. Runs GW2/Skyrim fine.

Compatibility Mode (XP2/XP3/Win7) did not work.
Running as Admin does not work.
dll solutions (dinput8 and d3d9) did not work.
Disabling Win7 gadgets did not work.
Disabling all DLCs did not work.
Enabling all DLCs did not work.
Nexus Mod: Mission Mojave bug fix pack does not work.
DirectX is up to date, did not work,
NVidia drivers are up to date. did.... not.... work.

The really frustrating part is the game not only works on my work computer, but my crappy 5 year old laptop.

Any suggestions welcome if there is something else I havn't tried.
