Game crashes after intro
Problem right. Everyting runs smoothly, get to the point of being shot in the face, splash screen/loading page, then crash. Anyone know how to fix?

This might not work, but do you have any outdated mods loaded? That fixed my copy of skyrim when I had a similar problem.

How did u validate files? Just verify game cache? that doesnt work for me...

You need to verify game file integrity. This happens if steam updates the game and accidently currupts a file. If the verfication detects corruption Steam will quickly auto download the needed file.

What worked for me was changing compatability mode for the two application files for the game. I changed it to Windows 7 compatability which made absolutely no sense but it worked...

amazing.... I just broke down and purchased a new graphics card, got the new drivers and... STILL the game crashes the moment I hit PLAY.

I am really out of ideas. Could my motherboard be incompatible with NV?

Try going into the fallout folder in your steam library and changing the FalloutNV and FalloutNVLauncher applications to Windows 7 Compatability mode.

I just bought the game with the D.L.C. bundle and whenever I try to start a new game it runs the openning cutscene just fine but crashes on the loading screen before you wake up at Doc Mitchel's, I've tried verifying the game's integrity, changed the compatibility, redownloaded it, nothing is working. I even turned off all the D.L.C.

hey all i have to say its a STEAM problem, i was having all these same problems, sent a message to STEAM a few days later another UPDATE, and BOOM, ALLL fixed

Okay I will try talking to Valve and Bethesda.

Good luck!!! I ran a defrag and then validated on my last event. I have lots of mods, so the updating issue gets fun. With all the DLCs off and no mods, may lead to Steam issue. With nothing added the Load Order is not bringing in any problems.

Not to be that guy, but thread revival for this:

Does anyone know if/how this crash was solved?

Brand new desktop* past couple months and tried everything to no avail. Always crashes on the loading wheel (black background, no slides or hints; music is on at first and cuts out; FONV crashes after ~3min of waiting on this screen) when waking up at Doc Mitchell's place.

*Runs Skyrim flawlessly on Ultra with around 24GB of mods (no, I don't use anywhere near that for FONV; yes, I use BOSS/LOOT + FOMM + FNVEdit and change load order as mods may require).
GeForce GTX 650 Ti
16GB RAM
i5 3570K
Win 7 Ultimate

Tried without DLC first, no dice. Then with, no dice. Then with DLC and mods, found out PN + WMM were screwing around, uninstalled FONV and reinstalled, changed the .ini's to account for HeadGen, ThreadedAI, deleted IntroMovie. Tried without, then with compatibility mode: XP SP3, then Win 7.

Keeping in mind every single time I change one thing in the list^, I would reset AI I! and the FalloutNVLauncher before using FNV4GB+SKSE (everything is latest update as well, drivers included; d3d9.dll was also checked).

Finally, reinstalled Windows, then Steam, then FONV, then verified game file integrity(?) through Steam; no mods. Nothing further than the load wheel after the intro movie.

Best to contact Steam/Bethesda at this point, or just give up on playing FONV?
