Modding
I don't know anything about modding and installed a bunch of mods for fallout nv

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F1rsvhVNgI&ab_channel=ESO
(the guide i used, also the only mods i used)

It's just mods that fixes the game and makes it playable but I have always been launching the game through steam, does that mean the mods weren't working...?

Mods work even if you launch through steam.

You dont need a 30min video to watch, this one is shorter and explains the most important parts.

Or use what the guy above me posted, pretty good stuff

What they don't tell you is that setting up a FO:NV with tons of mods is time consuming even in expert hands.

You have to toy with mods plugins : version compatibility, plugins inter-operability (not all mod work with all other mods) , conflict resolution (some feat from a mod will override another previously loaded)

You might have some issue with the 4GB RAM support patch which is applied at executable levels or F:NVSE (Script Extender) which has to be uncompressed manually in Steam installation folder.

As other people have suggested, viva new vegas is a super comprehensive beginner friendly intro to modding, and it is your absolute best resource. VNV is based around using Mod Organizer 2 rather than vortex, with I would suggest switching to it, although if you do switch I would also recommend a completely fresh reinstall of the game, so if you don't go down this route that is completely understandable.

Mod Organizer 2 is a bit easier to navigate IMO, and is significantly better in terms of changing and visualizing load orders which becomes particularly important the more mods you are using. In game you can use your tilda key to open the console and it'll show NVSE and other vital plugins and their version numbers if they are working.

Finally, the 4 GB patcher should make your NVSE loader your default executable so launching from steam should work fine. All of this and much more is covered in VNV, and even if you aren't gonna use the guide, it is pretty useful to look through just get your general bearings for modding.

i just switched to MOD2, i just wanted to ask about launching through steam and you say all my mods will work fine?
The thing is why I am asking is because it's just bug fix mods, so you can't really tell if they are working or not

You launch from Steam and you tick each modular feature (.esm) you want to play with.

So launcher -> Data Files , then play.

This is the blunt method without Nexus Mod manager / Vortex.
