NVSE and NVSE Extender
OK, Bear with me for Im new to modding. I've been dabbling in various different mods for just a bit of fun, including some well know adult mods from Nexus.

I have the latest version of NVSE from Nexus, (6.2.9) which also happens to say NVSE xNVSE in its title description. Now from what I understand, these are or appear to be two separate functions/files.

I have NVSE installed correctly through Vortex and it when I do the "getnvseversion" on console command, it comes up with version 6 which is my understanding is the latest version. However, when I load up the game, a certain mod says

"......requires NVSE extender v16. Please install it(correctly.)"

However, afterwards, this pops up in the corner:

"MODNAME 2.version# Ready!"

Im running the game using NVSE loader every time, so was hoping it would work but to no avail.

Ive read the forums on LL as well as other various sites, all seemingly pointing to xNVSE as being an extension to NVSE. However, everywhere i have searched for this, there doesnt seem to be a version 16 you can download. Only the NVSE file itself which I have installed.

The guides quite often have invalid links since it was a few years go. However I have tried to ensure i have all the steps in place.

What am I missing here? Where do you get this elusive xNVSE ver 16 from? or have I already got it and need to something else with it?

Any help would be appreciated as this is getting to be a puzzle which is pissing me off.....

You don't.

I'm assuming the mod is from LL since you won't name it, and you mentioned their forums,

Mods released on LL are just generally poorly made and broken trash. I'm not saying that because I disapprove of the content - horny mods are just as valid as non-horny mods. I'm saying it because they are generally made by either purely artists or plain old horny people who really have no idea how to make mods.

xNVSE is the most modern possible version of NVSE. If a mod ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up their detection so bad that it's version checking is that broken (version 16 refers to an unreleased alpha, to my knowledge), that mod is too broken to be used.

Avoid mods from LL and GUN. Both are just full of broken, obsolete mods that were usually coded one-handed.

Actually the mod was from Nexus, but when searching for a solution, it lead me to LL as apparently they had a fix. They didn't...despite their guide which appears I've done everything right.

I've used LOOT to sort files and also had it checked with quickclean tool to ensure the mods are not causing any issues on their own. All are ok.

But like I said, I have NVSE and I'm also wondering if NVSE and then XNVSE are two different things or are they one in the same?

The mods themselves DO work but only when talking to vendors and asking for a discount. The other parts in normal dialogues with other NPCs give you the extra options, but then nothing happens. I thought it was all down to xNVSE which is what is says at the very beginning when you load the game. that's why I'm thinking maybe this is the last piece in the puzzle.

About 90% of the mods on Nexus are also broken or obsolete - especially sex mods, and for the same reasons. Usually made by non-modders who are just feeling randy. Judging by the expected mod behavior, sounds like you're using Animated Prostitution.

That mod was literally never finished, and the last update for it was before the last update to the game itself. You aren't going to get it working properly, because it just never worked properly and was never actually completed. When it does work, after tinkering, it breaks AI packages and dialog trees totally, rendering the game unplayable in many instances.

Avoid using any mods from before 2018 or so, aside from pure texture mods - they're generally based on old tools and techniques that have been superseded for good reason.

LOOT should not be used for New Vegas - the masterlist is not kept updated, and it's just a random load order shuffle. Sorting with LOOT is a diceroll, and not one you are likely to ever win. That's one of the primary reasons that Vortex is generally not recommended for NV.

You should almost never clean mods either - any non-broken mod that "needs" cleaning per quickautoclean likely has ITMs etc. for a reason and cleaning it will break it. If a mod actually needs cleaning, it's poorly made and should be avoided.

NVSE and xNVSE are the same. xNVSE is the maintained and current version of NVSE. Any mod that relies on NVSE instead of xNVSE is relying on broken and obsolete behavior.

To properly fix and get AP working as intended would basically require extensive learning about how to make mods yourself - and once you do that, one look at AP's actual code will make you realize that it' not worth fixing. It would be easier to make a new mod from scratch.

Thanks for this mate, interesting analysis and some things worth considering. the mod Im using is sexout and not the anim pro you mentioned. that answers the conundrum about NVSE and xNVSE though, so Im unsure why sexout would need v16 if NVSE is already installed as the latest version. Anyway, the whole thing was just a novelty for a bit a laugh. No dramas if it doesnt work as I am more interested in the game itself and its missions. I have some of the texture updates which do improve the game a fair bit, but realise it IS and old game afterall. Looks like I will just give that mod a miss and play as is. Thanks for the input. :)

Bad information is still bad information, even after 3 years.
NX is an addon to NVSE; they are not the same.
