getting maria off benny at the tops

i can NOT get maria no matter what i try. if i try to pickpocket either its not listed in his inventory or he catches me every time.
if i try to shoot it out of his hand he picks it up way before i can ever get anywhere near it. so far i have been trying to do this and nothing else for about an hr now and have had to also suffer through 2 corrupted saves and 4 crashes on top of it.

how the hell do you get this done?

im curious to why youve been avioding murdering him as far as i know killing him is the only way

in order to get the achievement, you need to kill him with maria (the 9mm he has on him) but to do that you have to get it away from him first. im not trying to avoid killing him, im trying to get it so i can kill him with it.

I think if you're playing a female character, you can sleep with him, steal Maria while he's asleep, and kill him with it.

You can pick pocket it. but you better have high sneak, no armour on and a stealthboy is helpful.

i had trouble with this too. tried pickpocketing at the fort, but i couldn't get it in over 20 tries with ~70 sneak + stealth boy. apparently its easier to meet him in private at the tops then shoot it out of his hand, but you only have a small window of time to pick it up so it might take a few tries.

if this is in regards to the combat veteran achievement, i found historical propriety, vault 13's revenge, and white line nightmare much easier.

Okay, I tried this last night, and it is with a low Sneak skill impossible to pickpocket Benny in the Tops before he begins his talk with you, or at least in the Presidential Suite. And even then, he doesn't have Maria in his inventory before he notices you.

Secondly, in case you decide to off him on the Casino floor (If you have Terrifying Presence, use it for some hilarity), it might happen that Maria will not appear in his inventory.

The biggest tip I can give you on that is to check his four bodyguards if they didn't pick it up during the battle before you could. One of them is armed with just a lousy Straight Razor, and will always use Maria if he has the chance to do so. Might be a bit hard to do if you took Bloody Mess and thus turned them all into giblets by accident.

For the GRA Challenge 'Talk About Being Owned', just talk on the casino floor about Yes Man.
Benny will wait for you to meet up in the Presidential Suite. Go for the option to battle him right there (In case of Terrifying Presence, you need to shoot him once non-fatally for him to equip Maria) and cripple his right arm which he holds Maria with. He will drop it, which gives you the opputurnity to pick it up and finish the challenge right there.

many many tries to grab it when it falls, every time he picks it up before i can but it still appears from everything i can find to be the easiest way to get it.

Makes me glad it's just a 9mm pistol and not an AMR...

In order to get this achievement you need a few weapon repair kits and it is helpful to convince Swank to let you take your weapons with you if possible. Meet Benny in his room, then attack him (you can do this after you talk to him in the room). Use VATS and only target his gun, Maria. You need to damage it so that it is at 0%. Sometimes you will shoot it out of his hands before it gets to 0% condition and he will try to pick it up again. Once you have damaged Maria enough, Benny will drop it and run out of the room to get another weapon. Pick up Maria and fix it with a weapon repair kit (I don't think you can use another weapon to fix a weapon with 0% condition). When he returns, shoot him with the newly repaired Maria and the achievement will unlock.

Oh come on. Benny couldn`t load a AMR, much less fire one.

Other way around. If you completely break a weapon, you can't wield it, therefore a WRK is useless.
