Is there a fix for "choppy" gamepad aiming :/?
Hello everyone :),

I've played New Vegas to the death when I got it back in 2010 for PS3.
Sometime last year or even 2 years back I've decided to buy it for PC (Gamebryo engine have serious framerate issues on consoles).

I've enjoyed it immensely on PC as it didn't had any framerate issues. Now let me get to the point. My only gripe with the PC version is that I prefer to play on it using a gamepad, being that I was mostly a consoles player for whole my life.
Aiming with the right stick feels kind of choppy/inaccurate. There's no such issue when I use a mouse and PS3 version doesn't have this issue either.

Did anyone experienced what I'm talking about and possibly knows how to help me? I would really appreciate.

PS. No, it has nothing to do with aiming speed in the options. Confirmed by me ;P.

search for similar posts on the issue here, its a bit of a hot topic :trolol: you may find some relief
i just use the mouse/keyboard now,but i do miss being able to lay back in my nice comfy lazy-boy chair and play though :tgrin:
It's because you're using a controller. There's a huge amount of precision that you'll find with a mouse that a controller doesn't have. There's no solution for it, unfortunately, because the problem is innate with the controller.

I use a PS2 Dualshock 2 controller and don't have choppy aiming. Yes, mouse aiming is more accurate and I have used kb/m. I think it might be the controller and/or drivers more so than the game. I don't like to use my Afterglow 360 since the controller design won't allow as much precision because the analog sticks have a bit too much "spring" to overcome.

Aiming in this game simply is just clunky as hell using a controller. It felt much the same on Xbox. Not much to do about it I'm afraid.

Dude, did you actually read my post?
I was mostly a consoles player for whole my life and therefore I prefer playing with a controller. Also sitting next to a 32"TV isn't exactly ideal when a desk allows you to sit only about 50cm away from it.

Aiming works perfectly fine on PS3 and I'm just wondering why is it clunky while using controller on PC version.
Why every question about a controller on any Steam game boards must end up with responses not on topic and with people telling you that mouse & keyboard is better?
I prefer playing with a gamepad and I hate playing with mouse and keyboard. I even use Xpadder for all of the games which lack controller support of any kind.

You just gave me an idea here man. Thanks ;).
I'll plug my PS3 dualshock and make it be emulated as X360 controller with Joy2Key. Maybe that'll solve it.
Again thanks.

.

You could get a wireless M+K. I have that for when I plug my laptop into one of the TV's. Still, a bunch of games are better to play with a controller.

Wireless doesn't do it for me as it's still keyboard and mouse. Controllers actually give you this kind of feeling of "being" in the game.

Because all those little tricks that make aiming even doable on a pad - snap to, acceleration, sticky crosshairs etc - aren`t used in PC games meant to be played with KB&M.

Your post is completely invalid. You realize that many FPS PC games with controller support came out for PC prior to New Vegas release, right?

I made this thread asking if there's any possible fix for clunkiness of aiming with a gamepad in this game. I DON'T want to listen (again) as to how much a keyboard and mouse are superior to controllers.

I every thread about a controller on Steam boards must end up flooding with people starting to rant about keyboard & mouse combo superiority? I don't care about that as I much more enjoy playing games with a controller.

Sure, and those activate those little helpers when they detect you using a pad. NV does not, so your aiming is suddenly tons more difficult than what you`re used to.

I got one more thing to try then, namely Xpadder. Since right stick will be mapped as a mouse, aiming should be as smooth as in the PS3 version.

Are you not listenting ? It won`t be because the PS3 version very likely HAS those little tricks to make FPS style gameplay possible on a pad.

Dude, have you ever used Xpadder?
Besides a lot of games released for PC have controller support (X360 controller) and work perfectly with all those "consoles helper" which you keep on talking about.

I've played 1st F.E.A.R and bunch of other games which don't have controller support using Xpadder and it worked perfectly. I don't need aim assist etc. all I want is to eliminate the clunkiness of aiming with the right stick and this can be done with Xpadder as I can map right stick to work as a mouse movements.

Oh you do. You just don`t realize it because you`re so used to it being there. The clunkiness IS there no longer being all those little tricks.

But whatever, I see you won`t listen to reason.
