A strange.... request?

I don't know if i missed it, or if it doesn't exist. But something that irks me for some reason about fallout is the significant lack of bread. All the materials for baking bread are there, so where's the bread? Did i miss it somewhere? Is there a mod for it? (i'm sorry for my mindless ramblings about bread)

EDIT: This has nothing to do with the thing above, but are there any mods that open up the strip like it was supposed to be? (like those stupid checkpoint things inbetween) One of the doors doesn't work for me and i always have to tcl past it :/

I can't imagine a lot of the ovens work in these days.
Most of the food is either from plants, animals, or irradiated preservatives from before the war.

People have baked bread for thousands of years without modern ovens. Bread is made from plants too by the way. You make flour from wheat and mix it with water to make bread. Even if we assume that wheat for whatever reason went extinct after the war - which defies logic as there is bound to be some seeds left somewhere for such a widely cultivated plant - you can also make flour from maize which is in plenty supply in the wasteland. There's really no good reason for there not being any bread, seeing as it is a staple food item.

Here's a modder's resource that includes a bread mesh.[www.nexusmods.com] It's trivial to make it into a new food item and setup a few recipes. Maybe even a recipe for grinding maize into flour, to make it more easily accessible.

I agree with hgh, store bought bread from a factory is crap, and majorly, thats all you see in american grocery stores, even the stuff you get from the super market's bakery iis bland high gluten dough from a factory, then of course the more you bleach flour the less flavor and nutrition it has, I could go on and on...

I find that things made from scratch ingredients are rarely bad at all, what would bread taste like if the flour for it were ground by hand, mixed with purified water, kneeded by hand, and baked in a fire baked oven.

Ooooh I HATE wonder bread... but hand made stuff is generally better, i don't think the components to make it would be very nice to eat if they werent made recently.

OP asked why there isn't bread in game and if there's a mod to change that - not your opinions on grocery store bread, which is doubly irrelevent since New Vegas has neither chain grocery stores nor all the modern day junk we use to make cheap bread/ other food products...at least not in the Mojave, anyways.

It's a very good question, since there's already flour in-game along with corn/ corn crops and (what looks like) wheat crops - especially considering, as Ladez said, bread has been made for a long time without any modern equipment or ingredients. I think there was a mod or something in FO3 that added bread, as I distinctly remember making (rather, baking) some while in Point Lookout. As for NV, I don't know of a mod that does that...you'd think PN would have hopped on that.

However I'm not totally sure what you mean by open up the Strip, as the Strip is supposed to be segregated for the sake of 'keeping the commoners out' and away from the 'high society' of the Strip.

We totally would. If Germany got nuked to all hell our priorities after getting the whole "apocalypse" thing sorted out would be :

1. Beaurocracy

2. Bread

3. Things to put on bread
