You've been misinformed. The option is to disable the generators during No Gods or Masters with Yes Man. But it does not change the ending.

There's actually 2 mini endings in Dead Money.
But for the core game, there is 4 Core endings, with many variations (like how the ending slides show you what happens to each faction and each settlement the courier interacted with, all those can be different every play through).
Also both the Mr. House and Yes Man endings also have variations in their endings Being able to negotiate the treaty with NCR for House or yes man which requires 100 speech, or not, as well as being able to cause a meltdown at the hoover dam for yes man and screwing everyone over, which i dont think changes too much.
