NVSE won't install
I played through the game once, and decided to get some mods. Since most mods need the New Vegas Script Extender, I tried to install it. Several hours later, it has not gone well. Whenever I go to the page and hit the download button, a file doesn't open, but it shows up in my notepad instead as a bunch of very complex looking code. I tried installing 7-zip, but the same thing happened. I went onto Youtube and looked up several walkthroughs, but they all said that it should appear in a folder that you can extract from, which is not happening. I am very tech illiterate, so I might just have it on the wrong setting or something. I'm very frustrated and would appreciate some help. Thanks.

If you have 7-Zip installed, you may just need to associate the .7z file extension with the 7-Zip file manager. You can do this from within the options menu of the program.

When you have done that, opening the file should launch the 7-Zip file manager which should show you the contents of the file. The archive contains a folder which then contains the NVSE files. Drag all the files into your New Vegas installation directory. Then launch your game from Steam or with the NVSE loader, whichever you prefer.

To test whether NVSE is working, type this into the game console: GetNVSEVersion

OK, when you download NVSE, save it to your Documents folder. Go to the file, right click on it, choose 7-zip. Then choose "Extract here". That will unpack the zip file and create a SKSE folder in Documents.

Now open your NV folder and the new SKSE folder. Drag and drop the .dll files and the skse_loader and the steam skse loader into your MAIN NV folder. Do Not put the files in the Data subfolder as you would when manually installing a mod[NVSE is not a mod]
