I killed Vulpes Inculta when I met him at Nipton, have I ruined the main game?

When i arrived in Nipton hunting Benny and saw Vulpes with the legion, I instantly murdered him. On the wiki it states he's an important npc in the main questline, have I damaged my game? How will the story be effected?

This is an Obsidian game, so the game is pretty flexible in these regards and it's almost impossible to break the main quest line. Later in the game, when Vulpes was actually supposed to appear and invite you to the fort , another legionary will do so instead of him.
Edit: Also the legion is gonna try to hunt you down until you arrive on the strip.

I always kill him. Unless I'm playing a pro legion character. Unless you plan on serving the Legion. Don't worry about him.
