I managed to finish the game (And DLCs) without mods for my first playthrough here, with a windowns 10 laptop, but now I have updated to a new gaming rig and play with several mods active.

While it is doable to complete the game without mods if one is more persistent or stubborn than the random crashes or bugs, the experience is far from fun, and more often than not, a waste of time. This is why the essential stability mods are always recommended.

there's no way to know before you try; it's a dated 32-bit XP/Vista/7 era game, and today's hardware wasn't even conceived of back then, so you might have some work to do, and you might not. but the DLCs aren't going to cause you any additional problems; if you can't run it, it won't matter if it's bare or ultimate edition, it'll be the same scenario you'll have to solve. you want this one, in it's full glory. I don't even know if you can buy the original without 3rd party key sites on Steam, but you probably can elsewhere.

This guide is a good start for beginners: https://vivanewvegas.moddinglinked.com/

And yes, mods work on the Steam version. New Vegas was a Steam exclusive on PC for years.

I feel they integrated the DLC well into new vegas, probably better than any other game, both for value added, and just implementation of how natural they feel, they feel like they fit but their absence doesn't feel like an absence.

Historically you get a 60% discount if you wait for a sale (occasionally 75%, but typically 60%) if the 19.99 is too much for you. the last sale was christmas.

there will probably be a spring sale in march.

vivanewvegas mentioned this note:
Only Steam (Global) and GOG copies of the game are supported by the Viva New Vegas Wabbajack!
my steam is not global, is it okay?!

what content restrictions did new vegas get to make it make a difference?
