Playing on mac?
Hello again guys. My laptop seems to have busted after over 6 years of use and now I’m stuck using my Mac. This isn’t a problem, except now I have the itch to play new Vegas again. So if anyone can bestow upon me blessed knowledge that can somehow get this game to work on my Mac laptop (which is new by the way), please tell me.

idk, but you could probably buy a PC that can run FONV for $50
so by "new" it's a RISC M2 M3 with plenty of RAM? you already have Parallels and a Win 11 copy up and running? if not, I mean that's a few hundred bucks right there, though if you just want to test it you can grab a Win 11 install ISO and never activate it (watermarked and no customization to appearance) and a trial edition of Parallels to see if it works for you before spending $...

then the only thing you really need is a faked DirectX9 dll to lie to the game and say you have a "real" GPU, which you'll get here: https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout3/mods/17209?tab=files (it says Fallout 3 and Intel, but it's fine, same engine, and it works for every other Mac user on Parallels so it'll work for you too) extract that into the game folder and fire it up...

I suppose you could use the porting toolkit and go that route, but depends on your technical ability, and I doubt it'll be anywhere near as fast... but it's been done. check the relevant subreddits for macbooks and FNV, accordingly...

hm, alright. I've already tried installing things like wine before but trying to troubleshoot and figure it out seems more trouble than it's worth for one game...
Edit: a friend on steam sent me this video if this is of any help/interest

I am sorry you have to go through this. Apple is known to make crap over priced products which are designed to be irreparable. Being forced to use Apple products is a painful experience anyways I highly recommend installing Fallout New Vegas Wild Card! One of the best modpacks released! It has over 800 mods and it's super stable which is insane in my opinion :D

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll look into to it! (Also, does it help me play on the alien Macintosh technology?)
As for the laptop, it’s fine. I can enjoy my kingdom rush among other things so I’m ok, but what really sucks is getting that itch to play new Vegas again and can’t. :P

Porting kit has worked really well for me , all the other options are really annoying to work around. But porting kit works the best imo
